Apple announced that iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad FW 4.0 will only support multitasking on the 3rd generation (32GB and 64GB) models, so the 8GB model isn't fully supported. Do you honestly think that Apple would continue to sell a model which is only partially supported? I think that Apple is going to announce a new iPod Touch with the new iPhone later this month, so the current 8GB model might be replaced by the 32GB model.

Having the same issue with mine. Got a 32GB iPod 3G on its way to me and I'm not sure whether to jailbreak or not due to warranty reasons. If shit happens and I have to take it to the Apple Store I'm screwed when they find Cydia on it.

ok so i'm wondering a few things again.i'm goin to get a ipod touch,they had better have a 8gb model in july or i'm goin to be mad that i will have to get it off of amazon or something,not a store 15 miles from me.why would they not make a 8 gb 4gen?if they do make it would it be the same price tag as it is,say at walmart?why would they make a system that you can upgrade but not suport it?money thats why..sorry..lol...i hope they will have a ton of them in stock at walmart because were i live everyone is not rich,so i hope no one buys any..the more i think about it the more i want it...i really dont care about multitasking.it would be nice but not nescsary...if i really want it i can jailbreak it.why cant the 8gb 2nd gen run o.s 4?

Yeah, some games do it with a small banner, others do it with a full screen ad between stages or at loading areas.

It can run 4.0. The iPod touch 2G can indeed run iPhone OS 4.0, albeit Apple will charge for the update (but you can easily find it for free). The devices that can't run iPhone OS 4.0 are the iPhone 2G and iPod touch 1G.

P.S.- If you jailbreak 4.0, it is possible to turn on Apple's multitasking.

Worst idea in the world. If they remove the 8GB they'd better reinstate the 16GB model. They need a smaller size to attract those with a lower budget.

the 0.8 version of PSX4iPhone works on the old hardware revisions like the 8gb model your planning to get but apparently it works 3x slower than on the new hardware revisions and only a handful of game will work anywhere near full speed. Jailbreaking is awesome and I would really recommend doing it, Spirit is currently the best but just a heads up; your artwork will get scrambled and you have to fix it by removing it and then re syncing it.

and the 4.0 FW DOES work with the late2008 model it works with iphone 3g & 3gs, iPod touch 2g late 2008 & iPod touch

It does work, it will cot $10 IIRC. But, it will only partially support the 2G, as in no multitasking. I also think that the 2G will be discontinued by mid-July.

Maybe...no telling until it's released. And if you're planning to buy this iPod at the end of June, then my guess is that it won't be around that long.
