Here's the story: I was dloading a file via a torrent using the Bitlord client. Now, once the file was complete, I went into Bitlord and right clicked on the file. As always, I'm presented with two options: Remove Task Only or Remove Task and Files. The first option is to just get rid of the Torrent file and take it off my pending tasks list, but the latter is to delete all the contents of the download completely. I clicked on Remove Task Only (stared right at it and clicked it) but when I went to check my Downloads folder, there was nothing to be found. The file itself was pretty big (about a GB) and when I clicked on my C: drive's details, I could tell that my Disk Space was a whole GB smaller than it was earlier. I also used the Windows Hard Drive search dealie, and nothing was found. This has happened once in the past with a different file, and I'm still stumped. I have no idea what happened to my precious file... Anyone have a solution?

i don't know if this will help much but try to rehash the file in your bittorrent program, double click the torrent file and then right click before it starts a brand new download and select recheck hash or repair, i have no idea what it ill say in that program you use but you get the idea.

and may i recommend that you download and try utorrent for future downloads?

I have uTorrent as well (and I love it to death) but there's one small problem with it. I can't get it to make my laptop to continue downloading even after I close the lid. For some unknown reason, when I close the lid with BitLord, it keeps my lappy awake and downloading. I know that I'm supposed to look in my control panel for power settings for my lappy, but it's overridden by Toshiba's pre-installed energy saver (which unfortunately doesn't freakin' work

) I even tried enabling the "Do Not Put Computer Into Hibernation" mode in uTorrent, but it does nothing. So for now I stick with BitLord, because it doesn't put my lappy in beddy-bye-time mode. [Why does all of technology hate me?]

BTW, the only hashing option I could find is "Manual Hash Check", and it's blacked out. Gonna re-dload and hunt down that waste of space later...

Option 1:
Download SequoiaView and search for a GB of space

Option 2:
BitLord may have downloaded it to a temporary folder and never moved it to the folder you asked for. Solution? Look through temporary folders.

Go in the BitLord options and look for things like temporary folders/download folders, and check those.

Option 3:
The files may have been hidden. Enable visibility of hidden files and folders in Windows and see what happens.

This actually happened to me. In my situation, it ended up being a rar - that I didn't realize was supposed to be a rar, but I don't use BitLord. I use good ol' Azureus... which reminds me that new version - Vuze sucks... gotta go back to the older one.

Holy shit, I fucking love you. Sequoiaview showed me so much stuff that I though was removed before but really wasn't. Sadly, there's no sign of the missing file. Maybe I'm just losing it...

Also, Bitlord doesn't use temporary folders, instead it creates an "Incomplete BitLord File" (.bcs! or something) in the downloads folder until it's 100% complete. Lastly, I already have the hidden folders dealie disabled... Yeah, I'm probably goin' cuckoo...

Actually, yeah, I poked around some more and it WAS in there (XP User Settings Temp Folder). Thanks a million!

Also, I uninstalled Seqouiaview and installed SpaceMonger in 2 seconds because, well... SpaceMonger has Piecharts! What can I say? I'm a sucker for Piecharts!

I see you've fixed your problem, but if you ever lose a download again and it happens to be significantly less than a gigabyte, then you can use a search utility or one built-in (I use directory opus) for a file that was modified in the last hour and other search options. I just had this problem a few minutes ago, heh.

I have a toshiba, and the annoying power saver feature works (It's great since you can change the brightness settings when you're using the battery.

well at least your problem is solved.

Yup, and is it true that uTorrent isn't installed, it runs directly from your downloaded file? Sorry, I'm n00b.

yes, it's a very small file, just a exe program, you don't have to install anything, incomplete files are the actual file you are downloading, it dosn't hide it in some unknown format, it has a lot of spersfic settings for routers and such and i get downloads fast when using it, only negative thing about the program is the connection can be a bit slow when uploading a lot, also utorrent is acepted with a lot of private tracker websites.

Oh yeah, I used to use it all the time when I first got this lappy (around 2002) and loved it. It just doesn't function at all on my lappy anymore (no idea why it stopped). Everytime I try to open it, the small loading glass icon shows itself for a split second and then disappears. Nothing opens up, it's as if it's told itself to close right after attempting to open or something.

Just wondering, can I delete most of the stuff that's in my Local User Temp folder files? Most of em are MP3's and videos that I've downloaded in the past via browser (wayyy past, like months ago), so I'm assuming most of these files and folders are no longer needed...?
