I got about $120 for my birthday, and since I really don't know what to do with it, maybe some GBATempers can help me out.
I'm thinking about saving $60 for MK when it comes out, but seeing as how that game comes out in April, I problably will spend all my money before it comes out. Also, I am going to buy a Gamecube for $20 from a friend. How easy/hard is it to make it run backups?
Maybe I'll wait a day and buy Homefront. That game looks pretty awesome.
What do you guys think?

ALternatively you could buy a used PSP. I had some moohah and decided to buy myself one. Two weeks later, I very glad I bought it.

Ok, so it looks like I'm going to save some for the bitchuz, buy some Dr. Pepper, buy some drugs, and save the rest for Homefront or Crysis. Thanks!

I'm just gonna say to not waste your money on Homefront.

It looks a bit more ambitious in setting and the like than CoD and what not, but odds are it'll just be really mediocre. In the end it's still "yet another modern war game" and with a flimsy, 4-5 hour single player and, odds are, an online multiplayer that'll be dead on arrival, you're gonna end up spending $60 on a game hardly worth half that price. No one will play it over Call of Duty or Battlefield Bad Company 2.

Personally I'd go with the used PSP as mentioned. It's a great console to own, especially with tons of games coming out/that have come out this month. They're definitely worth it.

TBH, I'm looking for a cheap DS Lite. I had a PSP, and never really liked it. Ended up giving it to a friend for christmas, made him really happy. But yeah, I'm not going to get a PSP.
What are some must own PS3 games? I only have Bioshock, Black ops, MW2, and MvC3

Red Dead Redemption is really good. By far one of the best games I've played this generation.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a "no shit" purchase, although odds are you'll want to play the first three MGS games (you can get MGS2 and 3 for under $10 a piece on Amazon for the PS2, for the original I'm pretty sure you can buy it on the PSN).

Heard some decent things about Killzone 2 and 3.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas are a lot of fun. Probably some of the best single player games this gen (it's easy to put hundreds of hours into them). Same goes for ESIV but I found it highly inferior to Fallout.

I heard Uncharted and Uncharted 2 were good.

Valkyria Chronicles, if anything as good as the sequel, is worth it.

Bayonetta seems to be a big hit with Devil May Cry fans and fans of that genre in general.

Demon's Souls is supposed to be good too.

Pretty sure that No More Heroes: Paradise is coming out soon in the US and EU. Great game from my playthrough of the Wii version, it easily sits near my favorite games of all time list.

Other upcoming must-haves include Anarchy Reigns and Alice: Madness Returns.

I am seriously considering Red Dead Redemption. How much do you think I can get it for?
I will start looking at MGS4. Sounds really good after looking at a few videos at youtube.
I tried New Vegas once, and I could never really get the hang of it. I really couldn't get through the first mission, I just got bored and started wandering around, and eventually tried to attack a scorpion that was like 20 times as strong as I was, and died instantly. I just didn't like it. Migh try Fallout 3, though.

Apart from Uncharted, I hadn't really heard about the other games. Will look at them and see if I like any of them.

I ordered this a few days ago, but I have a buddy who bought it last week who has had a lot of fun with it so far. He says multiplayer is pretty awesome too.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is an alright MGS game. It isn't my favourite MGS game (I'd say it's my least favourite), but whilst it may suffer from the problems of having way too many cutscenes it does tie up the plot and is a relatively fun experience. My ending time for my first run was somewhere around 17 hours, half of that was probably cutscene.

These games are better on the PC due to mods. I can't comment on the console versions, but New Vegas is an awesome game.

Pretty good games. Uncharted 2 Multiplayer seems to still be going strong too.

Valkyria Chronicles, if anything as good as the sequel, is worth it.

I haven't played much of Bayonetta, but it's an alright game.

Demon's Souls is supposed to be good too.
I have about 12 hours in it, I've beaten 3 bosses and have a fuck tonne of swords. Worth it since you can get it pretty cheap these days.

Just thought I'd throw my thoughts in on some of those games mentioned.

and just adding that Fallout 3 is incredibly bland compared to New Vegas, which has much better writing.

edit: If you're into games like GTA I would highly recommend Saints Row 2. Saints Row: The Third should be coming out near the end of the year, but the second game is excellent and very much worth playing.

New vegas does have better writing but its also less of a open world compared to fallout 3

It's a smaller world, but there is much more to do in it. It doesn't have the vast empty spaces of nothingness to trek across that Fallout 3 had.

Durr, how do I always forget this? SR2 is awesome, very fun and funny. I'll take it over GTA any day.

I haven't played New Vegas yet but I hear in general it's better than Fallout 3, if a little buggy. And yeah, you don't get mods with the console versions but they're definitely worth playing either way. If you have a good enough PC you should get it on the PC, otherwise get it on the Xbox 360 or PS3. Just get it.

I was referring to the invisible walls and the forced U shape even though its a open world

I'll agree with you on the invisible walls when trying to go west, but that land is just empty anyway (I think people were hoping they would populate it with DLC). In areas where invisible walls are stopping you from going out of the actual map to break the game, Fallout 3 had plenty of those too (and if you really wanted to break the game you could just noclip).

The forced U shape? You mean the direction of the main quests? You don't have to go that way. You can go straight to Vegas if you want, it just involves running through a field of radscorpions.
