I apologize if this is a stupid question that's already been answered, but I was just wondering if this new OFW 4.87 prevents one from installing CFW on the slim 2000's and 2100's.
I've modded a few of these in the past and was just curious if Sony blocked doing this with 4.87.

Thanks!

Hi

I bought a PS3 for the 1st time. It was already at 4.87. I installed HEN and have retroarch working and some of the games I dowloaded run via multiman. Is there a way to hack it and put CFW on it as I hear this is the best method. It's a Phat model CECH-L01
Thanks

Evilnat just released 4.87.2 CFW and Hen works on all models.

Grab the CFW
Use fat32 USB
Make a PS3 folder in root of USB
Make a UPDATE folder in PS3 folder
Put CFW in UPDATE folder and make sure its named PS3UPDAT.PUP
Update from XMB or recovery if have any issues

Sweet I will try this. Is it much better than using HEN?

Just to clarify...I'm wanting to know if its still an option to install CFW on a 2000/2100 series slim if it has been updated to 4.87 OFW. I'm not interested in HEN...I'm asking about CFW (rebug). I'm just curious if the 4.87 OFW blocks the ability to CFW. Thanks!

How about CEJH-10008? On the console it says CECH-2000B but on this specific console I'm also seeing
CEJH-10008 just making sure I'm in the clear on custom firmware.

run minverchk. bguerville toolbox may have that built in, because I've heard it's fool proof. that will tell you if you can install cfw or if it's hen only. it sounds like you have some sort of frankenstein.

I got myself an already modded 25XX slim PS3 and want to swap out the HDD for a bigger one.
I know that doing so will ask to install the firmware from USB.
It needs to be the official one first correct?
And should it be the lowest or can I just install 4.87 since it's supported?

it doesn't have to be official if on cfw. just reinstall the same cfw that's on the system.

Oh, I thought it had to be official because I replaced the HDD and it's giving me this screen (not my picture): https://i.redd.it/ea0mp4ngfof31.jpg
And I was planning on following this video along with other documentation, but nothing was mentioning my case:

Edit: I should've mentioned that I also wanted a clean install of the CFW, there's nothing I want to backup.

something could be wrong with the hdd if you're seeing that screen. it doesn't matter if the drive is formatted or raw as it will be formatted by the ps3 automatically when you install the firmware. you'll be doing this in the recovery menu.

Cyberskunk, the creator of rebug, used to test if the hdd could be upgraded with each firmware. I think they may still do this, so there's nothing to worry about. I think it's the image version that dictates whether the same firmware can be installed, and rebug's is all 9's. I think evilnat recently changed his to all 9's as well. I know that's in the vsh.self at least, not sure about the core os. the vsh.self is the file that you use if you want to make a spoofer, but it won't allow you to install different firmwares. that's in the core os.

btw, I got my hands on PUAD 2.0 beta. I'll ask evilnat if it's okay to share it (if you're interested). it now allows you to decrypt individual files instead of the whole set:

he said I could share it. it's still a wip, just the only thing that's missing is repack support for the core os. he said he'd finish it after cobra 8.3. anyway, here it is:
