Hi guys, i was searching on the internet a new hdd larger than the original 320gb that i currently have on my ps3 slim. I read on another forum that you can put at max 1,75tb before having issues regarding the recovery menu. Obviously this kind of hdd are long gone so i was wondering if in some manner i can reduce an (not so) old samsung m9t spinpoint 2tb down to 1,75tb to make the ps3 recognize it.

Technology to reduce HDD size does exist (if supported by the drive), see HPA (host protected area) and DCO (drive configuration overlay), but the cause of issues with large disks is not well known so they may not help: in general, the maximum recommended size is 1 TB and larger ones seem to be disk model specific... and for whatever it's worth, it's quite easy to find older SATA disks for little (especially given that any "large" 2.5 disk nowadays is SMR crap)

Thanks fellow italian friend, my idea is to try with the reduced 2tb one first (i have many dlc and psn games to install and ps3 games with mandatory installation) and if it's not working for some reasons i will downscale to 1tb. In case of 1tb is there really big differences between hdd and ssd?
