Hello. I recently purchased a lot of Japanese game-related goods and one thing included was this brown GameCube controller. Although the interior color and some fading on the back of the controller is the standard indigo color, I am wondering if this was just a well-done paint job (evident by the perfect logo), or something more. If anyone might know anything on if a brown GC controller was ever produced, let me know. So far I haven't found anything on it. I was refurbishing some of the stuff in the lot, so please note that I did switch out the control stick (if it looks slightly different in any way). Photo attached.

Might be a sun faded black controller?

Never seen any controller with a paint job like this though.
I don't think this is the case. As I mentioned, the interior of the controller is indigo, not black.

The only official brown GameCube controller is the official DK brown DK controller. But it only works on the Wii through the Classic Controller port. I don’t think this is it.

Cirka made an aftermarket brown one that looks surprisingly similar to the one you have. You can see that here: https://www.hyperkin.com/cirka-wired-controller-gamecube-wii-brown-beige.html

Putting the Nintendo GameCube logo on it wouldn’t be too difficult.

There’s also this that I found: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1366012870/official-gamecube-shells-choco-gc-91

I’m not sure how “official” they really are, but they look legit and are damn expensive. (Edit: these are painted.)

This could also be a TDEV controller. The TDEV console is the exact same color brown.

I found this on that site:

- The brown GameCube is unique to this dev kit. A brown original GameCube controller has never been found

It's definitely not that Cirka controller. Again, the entire exterior of the shell is one solid color aside from the logo. The controller board inside is also an original Nintendo one. The TDEV stuff is certainly interesting. As I've said, if this was custom, it was professionally done, even with the logo. Judging by the wear on the original thumbstick before replacement, this was definitely used during the GameCube/Wii era.

If you check carefully on the top border above the "Nintendo Gamecube" legend, you can see some cracks, so then its a paint job.

Might have had the legend redone so to keep the look, it's cleaner considering the general condition of the rest of the controller.

Looks like extreme sun fading. (pic not mine)
I disagree. I've seen many indigo Gamecubes that were sun faded heavily. They've always turned grey and not brown. Even the one in your photo is turning grey and not brown.

Not necessarily. Even in the early 2000's I had access to a screen printer that could've done the logo just fine.
Not sure how long these guys have been around, but they do it just fine: https://www.controlincolor.com/
