Gaming How can I make a WEP hotspot on my laptop?

How can I create a WEP hotspot on my laptop? Nothing worked, and I prefer to use my laptop. I know Ubuntu did work, but IDK how anymore. I can't use a router, but my laptop is fine.

Doesn't matter, preferrably a Linux distro (such as Arch). I got Windows 10 as main OS. I got only no Mac.

@migles this only supports WPA2, since Windows doesn't support WEP, Linux works with other stuff, but I forgot how...

Connectify works well. I thought Windows 10 had the function built in but maybe I'm thinking of something else.

Thanks for clearing that up. If you own your router, you can change its security to WEP visiting your public IP address as a URL. Login to your router and there should be a security menu where you can change the security.

@Pikm not my own router, and I'm only allowed to setup a hotspot by my parents

connectify only supports wpa on the free version.
i remember i needed to use the pirate version to make it work with wep

@migles, AFAIK Windows doesn't support WEP for hosted networks anymore, only Linux does, but I don't remember how I had it working

in Linux it's most conveniently done by using network-manager (arguably the most popular connection setup GUI), it will probably require backends (dnsmasq + hostapd, last time I checked many years ago) to be installed

in Windows you normally need 3rd party (usually wifi-card-brand) software, for the softAP integrated in Windows 7+ is WPA(2) only - and they're hard to find, honestly

In either case, access point mode must be supported by the card and drivers!

Hmmm, I can get it to work on Linux honestly, just remembered I used USB tethering on my phone with Ubuntu

just checked, they removed the option for wep, only allow wpa2 what a fucktards...
maybe old versions still work.. i may have the setup for the older versions wich supported wep on my backup hdd. send me a PM if you want to give a try
