After 5 years, I decide to use my nintendo 3ds xl again, but I am surprised that it does not connect to the internet, the console is in excellent condition. Since 2 weeks ago I've tried to connect my console to the internet, but I can connect it, the version of my console is 11.6.0-39U.

Is a normal console, I didn't install any kind of hack or smth like that and I don't have the CFW thing. What can I do? I need help.

use a game I'd imagine, like fragrant story. I'm sure it has the latest on it. at least, I think that will work on a non hacked console.

iirc the Nintendo Selects version of Mario Maker has fw11.6. Not quite the latest, but pretty much the latest any game demands.

It specifically says disabled so even if it might seem obvious check if in the "Home/wrench" menu (icon top left) Wireless Communication is ON

The highest any game would need to boot is 11.4.0. That's firmware/kernel version 2.54, which corresponds to SDK 11.6.1, the final version.

What the…? The 3DS handles WPA/WPA2 just fine. Even the DSi does (for DSi software).

Don't use cart to get fw updates u will end up with a frankenfirmware
Ah… A way of updating intended by Nintendo (!) will result in frankenfirmware… because it is missing the browser (and a few others)? You should have informed Nintendo about their inability to do updates correctly…
A cart update will work just fine to ensure a cart with higher requirements will boot. Would be nonsense otherwise.

But… there is this:

If connecting to the internet doesn't work, what is the point of updating to latest version? Everything offline should work just fine.

@Kasuto
As for the wireless failure: Does the yellow LED stay on all the time? Or does it spontaneously turn on and off when moving the console or changing the upper screen position (opening angle)? Such a hardware problem could lead to "The wireless connection is disabled" – my test console does this sometimes.

If there is no such problem:
Did you try multiple access points? Maybe try a hotspot created with a computer or a phone.
The WiFi card on old 3DS models can be replaced. Try all software options first!

It's 2.4 and wep

Set your 3DS to WPA/WPA2.
I think the only reason to use WEP settings is for playing NDS wifi games on 3DS.

Also, the 3ds system is only compatible with 802.11 b/g mode, if your wifi router is set to only 802.11 n, OR 802.11 g/n it won't connect with 3DS.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
