Follow the instructions. Follow all the instructions, do not skip any, and come back when you're done.

Ok I'll do that I'm sorry if I sound dense here I just really don't wanna screw up. I thought maybe I had to skip a few steps as I already had it hacked before. One last question I assuming step one would be to erase everything from my SD card no?

No, you can do that at the end.

No, you can do that at the end.

OK I made it most of the way through the guide and came to this during finalizing

"Update your device by going to System Settings, then “Other Settings”, then going all the way to the right and using “System Update”
  • Updates while using B9S + Luma (what you have) are safe
  • If this gives you an error, set your DNS settings to “auto”
Am I supposed to be actually connected to my network? I have the wirless on but not connected to the internet I was afraid It would update to an official new firmware that leaves me screwed for hacking this thing. Also where are the DNS settings?

Once you've gotten to that stage, updates are fine. Note the 'Updates while using B9S + Luma (what you have) are safe'.
Read it properly; you don't need to worry about DNS unless updating normally gives you an error.

OK so just to be clear I am to connect to my home internet network and then let it update? I tried without connecting to the internet and got an error about my network

Funnily enough, updating from the internet without being connected to the internet won't work.

You try being less condescending. I'm not an idiot. I thought perhaps it would update from a file I placed on the SD Card during this hacking process. I was only trying to be careful and not update my 3DS with an official firmware. A simple yes would have sufficed.

The way 3DS CFW works is by applying patches to OFW. There isn't any reason not to update to the latest firmware, and CFW works the same more or less whichever OFW you have installed.

I dunno, that seemed like just about the right level of condescending to me.

I absolutely appreciate the help and can't thank you enough but I felt I was being talked down to when I was only trying to be safe and make things absolutely clear for myself. I would hate to do all this and fuck my system up in the end of it. I'm willing to look like a dumbshit if it means I'm gonna be safe and not sorry. Anyway it's all good.

When the Holy Guide says something and >1 other person agrees with it, it's probably OK, so stop worrying. Also, with ntrboothax now available, it's more or less impossible to break a 3DS.

Also, if you want to stick with Reinand for whatever reason then you can download Rei-Six and replace the boot.firm already on your SD card with the Rei-Six one though aside from some legacy homebrew Luma can do anything that Reinand can do (and you can always chainload Rei-Six/Reinand from Luma if necessary).
