Is playstation bans different than nintendo bans? I mean on 3DS bans just mean you can't play games online, but can still buy stuff right? Access to eshop? So maybe you just can't play online or something. :O

Nop, Sony rather lose money than cut short on punishing you. A Playstation ban means you can't sign in to your account, and hence nor play online nor go to the Playstation Store (which to be honest, I think it ends up being and incentive to download games from other sources...).

There are stealth tools, but they aren't guaranteed to work, although many people have gone online for years and never been baned.

I feel like the people who get banned made a mistake at some point. I've been using cfw since 3.55 was the current firmware. That's about seven years. Might just be luck, though.

Just play it safe. Don't cheat, use stealth software, and DO NOT go online when using homebrew or pirated games.

We can't say "ok". There is always a risk and you have to agree to that if you wanna do it.
That said, if you just think before you do, and use stealth software before signing into your account, you should be good.

Games Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and up need anti-ban EBOOT. Lots of games need this because devs have their own system of detecting CFW and cheats.

Games like Advanced Warfare and Destiny are a guaranteed ban, Bungie is good at securing their games.

You can use psnpatch and other stealth apps to hide your PSN and console ID, but some games have some weird bugs if you run these apps, like missing ambient noise and little things like that. So far I have not been banned.
I've never heard anyone mention PSNpatch negatively affecting games as you describe. Where are you getting this info?

Maybe it was PSNstealth, but my information comes from first-hand experience with my own console which is repeatable. Journey and the Last of us have slight issues.
