i literally just installed the emulator last night, im playing nothing but FF7 and crash.
i was like ok, so i put the instructions up here.
and the articles i read that helped me get this running.
by looking at the poll, it seems everyone is having trouble.
idk.
beginners luck?
Just got it working and Bomberman world is indeed running at 50fps. As a tutorial it would be nice if you could state where to put the bios. Anyways I'll play around. Probably gonna test crash as well. Would have been nice to have sound though. Is there something other than installing the .cia you have to do?

Btw I tried the .3dsx first through homebrew launcher and as expected things ran pretty sluggish.

no, just install the retroarch cia,
then drag the retroarch folder to the root of your sd card.
bios go here
RetroArch>Database
also, try diferent bios.
it seems some or half use 5001, not sure if 1001 is the best choice

im sorry, i didnt make this tutorial for how to use retroarch.
i didnt have that in mind. it was also late.

I know you wrote that afterwards, but your first post, which is the tutorial, only says this :"find a bios pack for the ps1." It's a recommendation.

I have found that FF7 can be playable if you turn off Vsync and audio sync. There is a little crackling, however. With sound off, it seems to run full speed.

Turning on frame skip for some games helps, but seems to make FMV sequences look terrible and play even worse than with the frame skip off.

Suikoden 2 seems to run almost flawlessly

i dont know the settings for every game.
trial and error.
i will try to add more games with their settings
very busy right now.

Has anyone tried Xenogears?

and Chrono Cross?

no, when i have time i will download them, my ps1 library is small. i have to re download the no intro.

The compatibility list is outdated

quite indeed. i should have done r and d before i made this tut.
i will update this one and when i get my own lists and a complete draft, i will replace this whole tut for the experienced and nubs alike :gun::psp:

i got crash running pretty good with recommended settings, but the screen is flickering and has a small (window) screen in the upper left-hand corner. could it be my conversion? or my bios? or my rom?

hmm, make sure the resolution isnt doubled or anything, just 1x.

also what bios do you have in the retroarch>database folder?
if you have the scph1001.bin bios,
try to find the scph1000.bin bios

try having only one bios file at a time in the database folder
also try 5001 not 5501.
will try to do some reasearch and help you, but im very busy with rom translations and hacks.
try and post the same question and details you asked me, and those screenshots onto one of the gbatemp links i posted in the tutorial

EDIT: what format is your rom in?? pbp? bin? iso?

also try to download the latest build again.
uninstall retroarch and whatever cores you installed
backup your bios to ur desktop before deleting your retroarch folder.
put the new retroarch cia into the cia folder on your sd card
put the retroarch folder on the root of the sd card,
put one bios file in the retroarch/database folder,
try again, remember to change the emu settings again, like 1x resolution, turn off Vsync and audio sync etc.

report back

Ok, I tried again today and I got this:

Same as before, the app then closes, sending me back to the home screen

Any ideas?

what game are you playing when getting this message, and what is the size of the file

have you gotten this message with other games?

is sound off? vsync off?

possible solutions, bad rom dump or wrong img format. the compatibility list is quite old.

delete the retroarch/retroarch-core-options.cfg, and any .cfg files

uninstall pcsx and reinstall the core,
before we launch the pcsx core,
make sure your game is not in .ISO format, it needs to either be .bin+.cue or a .pbp (psp eboot).lets try .bin first

then launch the pcsx core from the 3ds home menu, dont load a game just yet.

before we load any games,
1.go down to settings
2. go to driver, make sure audio re-sampler is set to nearest.
3. then go back, head to audio, audio enable is off, make sure audio sync enable is off, everything in audio off.
then go back to main menu, load your game
3. when game loads, tap the touchscreen, go to options, set frame-skip to 3, make sure sound reverb and sound interpolation are off, they should be already.

then resume the game (tap the touchscreen)

then report back,
or try the 1.3.6 stable release of retroarch

Everyone who has had trouble, try downloading the PCSX ReARMed core from the stable 1.3.6 release of Retroarch

if all else fails, try a different fork of pcsx rearmed on github

expieriment with turning on and off v-sync or sync audio/frame rate if trouble persists.
i seen a working game with a nightly release from
3-20-2017
and
8-27-2016

nightlys can be found here,
3ds - buildbot.libretro.com > nightly > nintendo > 3ds

nvm, I tried other dump of the same game and it worked (also in pbp format)

right that was one of the first things i said. i have a link for you if you want a reliable source for good dumps and bios.

i could tell by looking at ur error message it was a bad dump.

im playing digimon world right now in bin format at 60fps.

i was able to replicate your bug, with the small image in the corner, then the big picture, then both flickering.
it happened when i saved my game in digimon world. but stopped once the saving was completed.

maybe it has something to do with a bad rom youre using, or you need to delete all cfg files in the retroarch folder and try again.
