You guys might already know about this, but I haven't been able to find information anywhere, so I made my own video about it.

As of right now, as far as I know, there's nothing we can actually do with the files once we have them, but I could see this being very valuable information in the future.

You can also use this to download the uwp versions of the backwards compatible Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games.

Typical backupping which technically also can be done with just connecting the drive to a PC's SATA interface.
It's pretty much useless.

I wouldn't call it useless unless you're also calling the ability to backup useless. I would personally prefer to obtain my backups without removing my Xbox One drive.

The dream, of course, is that one day we will be able to do something with the files.

Aside from dumping data, you can't do anything else.
Yes the ability to backup games is amazing but you can also connect an external drive to the Xbone and re-dowload every game as a backup.
Or, move all the downloaded games to a external drive and pluck them off off there.

You're right, you could use an external drive. However, the last time I tried that, I had to completely reset my external drive and reinstall every game. Maybe it's better now, that was probably over a year ago.

I just think it's pretty cool, and as far as I know, there wasn't any information about ripping them straight from the store before this.

Personally, I'd be much happier with a way to backup game discs then backing up digital games.
MS barely removes games from the store so I don't feel the need to dedicate what ever precious space is left on me server for Xbone games that I can easily re-download again ;p

I'm all for digital preservation tho.

It is probably safe to assume that these files are encrypted, which prevents us from being able to access the assets or executable.

Anyone check if it was as simple as decrypting using Microsoft’s tool and then packaging it as a appx bundle to install under dev mode?

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...x-tool#encrypt-or-decrypt-a-package-or-bundle

On the site you link, it talks about supplying a key as one of the arguments. As far as I am aware (feel free to prove me wrong), no one has publicly released the keys needed to decrypt the Xbox One titles (and I highly doubt that Microsoft would be foolish enough to use the global test key to encrypt their software).

My computer was damaged recently so I can’t see if they were that foolish, but sometimes companies make stupid errors, and that’s why I asked if anyone tried it.
