A few days ago I had discovered a way to get the popular psp emulator "PPSSPP" running on the Xbox One Console. I wrote a tutorial for how to get it running on the Xbox One which you can still find here
https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-run-psp-emulator-on-the-xbox-one.467686/

However installing it was anything but easy as it required you to download different pieces of software, mess around with settings, dive into a shell, and re-compile PPSSPP from plain source code. I am pleased to announce that I have successfully built a .appx package for easy installation. Now you can install PPSSPP in just a few minutes. I'll link to videos below at the end of the tutorial to showcase what the performance is like.

[1.] Download ProjectPegasus
https://github.com/wiired24/ProjectPegasus/raw/master/ProjectPegasusSetup.exe

68747470733a2f2f75706c6f61642e767374616e6365642e636f6d2f696d616765732f323031372f30392f32312f6d72342e706e67

[2.] Select "PPSSPP" once it finishes downloading, go ahead and extract the archive. Go to your Xbox One console and restart it into developer mode

[3.] Click on settings and you will see a menu that looks like this

2hzsm4n.jpg

Make sure and Tick the option that says "Enable Xbox Device Portal"
In addition you make sure "Require authentication to access Xbox Device Portal" is checked you will want to set up a username and a password.

[4.] Once finished go back to Dev Home and make note of your Xbox IP Address along with the port number listed at the bottom right corner it will look something like 192.168.37.8:11224 (Yours may be different) Open up your web browser and type in https:// followed by your IP and port number so for example https://192.168.37.8:11224alternatively you can also enter https://XboxOne:11224 for example. Once you log in you may receive a warning about the security certificate. Go ahead and proceed anyways.

[5.] You will now be greeted with a menu that looks like this

x1NTaoW.png

From Here it's rather simple just click Add and choose file

aAIvEra.png

You will then select the .appx file that you extracted from the archive earlier.

PPSSPP Has no required dependencies so you can go ahead and install.

PPSSPP will now deploy and install onto your Xbox One

To play your backups just load them off a USB thumdrive or external storage device.
If you ever run into any issues with save states just uninstall and reinstall and it will work fine.

Thanks to the wonderful team at PPSSPP for making this UWP Port without your hard work this would not be possible.

NOTE: To enable full screen go to Settings --> Display and Sound --> Video output
Then deselect the option that says "Apps can add a border" Credit goes to
GbaTemp user DamienNuez for the tip

Does DevMode cost money now?
It was supposed to be free! (I know i didn't pay anything, i am an however an Xbox community ambassador and in the tech preview but doubt that changes anything)
Did they change anything else?

Dev Mode to me did not seem worth it, AFAIK it blocks achievements and access to Xbox live taking away the core features of your console.
It takes time to activate and deactivate Devmode if i remember correctly.
You only get a limited number of activations so de-activating to use live/acheivements and re-activating uses another activation if i read correctly.
it therefore seems like a very expensive way to play retro games. you can probably get a raspberry pi for cheaper than $20 in the USA?
Retropie, Lakka or something on a Pi is probably a better alternative than crippling your Xbox One?

No it has always cost money and still does (For the Developer Account) The app of course is free. As far as achivements being blocked... No it doesn't. At least not for retail mode, in developer mode maybe but then again You can't play your retail games in developer mode anyways so it would not matter. And no it's no expensive you only pay $20 One time. That's it. Just One time. I dunno where you got some of your info from but it's wrong lol I've been using Dev Mode for over a year

It takes a rather short amount of time to activate dev mode, and once you do you can practically instantly go back to retail mode to play your normal games. There is no crippling f your xbox, least not one that I know of. You've been terribly misinformed, but to be fair not too many people are taking advantage of it so it isn't as well-known as say WiiU CFW.

Hopefully that trend will begin to change as more people see the value of developer mode

Dev Mode doesnt disable live and achivements... you can switch between dev mode and retail with a button in the dev mode dashboard.

So, I have some question when playing with PPSSPP (I'm very noob with this emulator):

1. How can I center the image of the gameplay? Right know, the windows is adjusted to the Left-Up part of the Screen.
2. By default, the B button also functions as the Menu button for the emulator. How I can change that? In setting, I couldn't find an option for it.

What I did is i went to "Settings" and mapped the "RB" Button as the O button. Make sure you change the setting when you are NOT running a game otherwise PPSSPP will crash. As far as moving the image no, the only fix i have found is try adjusting your T.V. settings if you can. See if you can Widescreen or stretch your picture mode on your T.V.

Try adjusting the video settings on your T.V. maybe trying widescreen. That's what I did and it works good for me. Also Thanks for testing I'll update the list accordingly :)

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
