Hacking How to update firmware safely to latest version?

So i have been out of scene for one year, my firmware was 9.something and I use atmosphere. I wanted to play 3D world but seems it doesn't load in this firmware. So how should I update? Before I just used to update normally through switch system , then update sigpatches and atmosphere manually in sd card. Can I still do that?

Yes if you want too. I suggest to Remove SD card first then update normally thru switch settings, then
1 - Format SD card to FAT32 (If you have games on sd card already, back up the "Nintendo" folder to pc, then back to sd after formating)
2 - Fresh install of Atmosphere files on SD card. - https://github.com/Atmosphere-NX/Atmosphere/releases
3 - Get and put Sigpatches, according to your FW and Atmosphere version, in "atmosphere" folder - https://github.com/ITotalJustice/patches/releases
4 - (optional) Get Goldleaf and place inside "switch" folder - https://github.com/XorTroll/Goldleaf/releases
Get Lockpick_RCM.bin- https://github.com/shchmue/Lockpick_RCM/releases. Put it in SD:\ bootloader\ payloads folder. Reboot to Hekate menu, select "Payloads", then "Lockpick_RCM.bin" and get your keys.
5 - Boot into Hekate menu, select "Payloads", then select "Fusee-Primary"

There are a few things I would recommend changing but the most important one is not to recommend Goldleaf as it is arguably the worst title installer.
