When I was updating my Gold I pressed A when it was done and it started again and I was like DAMNIT.

My DSN 3D bricked (Spongebob icon, but white screen)

DSN DSi does nothing. I think we can throw them away...

Edit: Yeah, the Don't-Press-A-Thing is important. So: Don't press A. But my DSN 3D bricked anyway ("Success"). Even my DSN DSi had "Success", although nothing got updated.

And now I have two useless cards. We'll see how this develops. It doesn't start good. Quite bad, indeed.

I'll get two new cards in a few days, then we'll see. They are not expensive.

But this update procedere is shit. Then I prefer to buy a new card after every update like "R4i-SDHC Red Box".

My R4i gold won't even do that....

I follow the instructions (I'm using a DSLite) & what I get is

 Card Check OK
Upgrading
Result No Upgrading is needed

& it doesn't work in my DSi (with 1.4.2) - as it comes up with 'An Error has occurred....'

EDIT: Hmm might've found out WHY...
Googled for "R4i gold" "No Upgrading is Needed" & it seems like there are in fact 2 types of R4i Gold cards & the very EARLY versions of these CANNOT be upgraded (the Google results actually refered to the 1.4.1 R4i Gold upgrading)

So despite me buying it ~month ago - I MAY have one of the earlier versions of the R4i Gold - DAM !!!
Is there anyway of knowing for sure ??

It's not the "very early" version that can't update, 95% of all Gold Cn / DSN won't update.

There are dozens of DSN clones now, that's the reason.

You can start an own DSN clone collection, the wave is just reaching europe.

Anyway: Shit, ywg. This is all shit. Let Wood run on Acekard. Let it run on DSTT. On M3. Whatever. Dont be such a $-0.50-cheapo.

If you get an error that says no upgrade is needed then do this.

1. Turn off the ds
2. Eject and reinsert the cart
3. Turn on the ds and run the updater again
4. Press A immediately and it will give a fail error. That's fine.
5. Now eject and reinsert the cart (don't turn off the ds)
6. Press A again and it should update now.

It worked for me and I had gotten the same error.

How should that work with a DSi? Itr's a DSi card, you know...

Hmm, I'm sure I've already tried that (out of desperation) - but I'll give it another go when I get back home from work

EDIT: Back home - tried this - Still no luck... still showing 'Result No upgrading is needed'

One thing I have noticed - perhaps some1 can check - on TOP screen (of the DSLite version of the 1.4.2 update) it says 'v1.4.2 Patch for R4i Gold 3DS'..
My card is the original 'R4i Gold' and looks like these

DO NOT install this update. It will brick your card. After updating mine I now get a white screen. I have contacted the R4iDS team for more info.

I think they was so desperate to release it before other teams, that they released it without proper testing.

Kiekoes, it won't work with the DSi versions. Only the 3DS versions. Just like I said.

There are a lot of R4iDSN clones now.

These are all R4iDSN (but a bit cheaper, lol), and they don't want to provide DSi 1.4.2 update files for them.

Phew!!!

EDIT: Well a new (second) version of the fix has appeared on the '.cn' site now - tried it - STILL getting 'Result no Updating is needed'...
guess my card IS an older (or 1:1 clone) & can't be updated [YET.....]
