This is ridiculous, I've done this before successfully but for whatever reason I can't seem to get this Xbox I'm trying to hack to boot the Rocky5 installer. Every time I try to launch it (from Agent Under Fire) the screen goes black then the light on the Xbox turns red but nothing happens.

I've tried power cycling before launching AUF, I've tried deleting and re-copying the files, I've tried copying them using different utilities...none of it lets me see the installer launch. I also updated the dashboard in some vain hope of getting it to go but, nope.

I've definitely done this before correctly and I'm using the files directly from the GitHub. Furthermore launching the Insignia modded save file DOES show video so there's no problem with the exploit save, I just can't get the console to start up the installer.

I notice it deposits a 13 block save for UnleashX in the Xbox when it hangs like that. If I leave that there then try to run the exploit save from AUF it just stays lit green (presumably never launching the softmod).

I'm going nuts, I don't know why this is happening when I've done this successfully at least three times in the past.

EDIT: Sorry for not putting on a prefix. I didn't know how that works and it seems I can't do it after the fact.

The only game I have that works is 007:AUF (I have MechAssault but it's the wrong PH serial).

Initially the console actually did not have the most recent dash revision. I thought that might be contributing to the problem so I updated that to the most recent dash today but it still fails on loading the installer. I was getting info from elsewhere that the dash revision isn't related to the softmod working or not anyway (but I was hopeful).

You should try this a few times and let it hang for a bit. Sometimes it just needs time. Also should consider a TSOP after you are all up and running to avoid this problem in the future.

Meh, I let it sit there for about 15 minutes a little while ago and no headway.

I guess it's a 1.1 Xbox. Don't know if that matters.

Should I consider buying a different game to try to exploit with?

1) I presume you’ve checked the caps? (Not related but still recommended)
2) Did you remove all data related to 007? When softmodding a friends with SC and Ndure some DLC caused problems.

Alternative is a bit risky and requires a computer (or adapter) with IDE.

https://consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox:Hotswapping

It involves swapping the hard drive to the computer while the Xbox is still on.
No need, the Ndure method worked!

I guess having the softmod package embedded inside the exploit save was the key (since the Insignia setup exploit save doesn't require a second package to be installed alongside the save in order to launch the payload and it worked properly). Launching the entry point and payload in the same file I guess makes it so it doesn't need to jump elsewhere to launch the softmod and it can continue on.

After using Ndure to get the system softmodded I went back and used Rocky5's Quick Upgrade utility to reconfigure the system using the modern softmod (had to use the Quick Upgrade because the Extras disc would just fail with the same problem as above, although it at least loaded and read the system BIOS). Getting that Quick Upgrade to work wasn't smooth either but that was just down to user error (I had put it in the wrong directory to launch from).

I still had some trouble getting the system preconfigured to join Insignia, however. The Insignia setup assistant wouldn't launch properly either in disc form (my usual Insignia disc wouldn't even get picked up by the console and the new copy I burnt didn't actually launch the utility--it just sat at a black screen) or as an .XBE (the program would crash immediately with a squiggly line in the middle of the screen then kick me back to the dash). Someone in the official Insignia Discord suggested launching an older revision of the Insignia setup software then trying to relaunch the newer one. Unfortunately Insignia has taken down all their old revisions but luckily he still had one and sent it to me. Doing that did indeed let me go into the current Insignia setup assistant and get the console registered on the Insignia network so, aside from swapping the HDD and redoing the clock cap, this Xbox is good to go!

Did you load the first mission & quit before selecting the save from the menu?

I could have worked around this, but doing so broke v1.0/1 Xbox (would just hang the Xbox) so I stuck to the old method of loading the mission and quitting first.

Glad you got it up and running eventually.

The softmod comes with a guide on how to run each exploited game save. (1,2,3,4 steps etc…)

Yeah, I've done this before so why it wasn't working was beyond me. This was a very odd Xbox.

I had actually tried to PM you over on Reddit as "UrineGoodCompany" but I had the issue solved before I heard back from you.
