I'm tired of reading from my phone. I want to read ebooks from a screen that's better to the eyes.

What's the best ebook homebrew that can let me read a whole book? Because I remember there were some that had page limits.

Most "ebook readers" are just simple .txt readers. DSlibris claims to support epub, you could try it.
iReader for the SC DSTWO supports PDF, apparently with low compatibility however.

However as most phone screens are AMOLED meaning the blacks are truly black and only parts of the screen that are supposed to be lit up are lit up. In what world are the cheap TN screens of the DS better? The screens are also much smaller, resulting in needing smaller text making you have to squint, and due to the low resolution, the text is not as crisp.

If you read a lot of books I'd recommend a real ebook reader, they're fairly cheap and they are amazing, and the battery lasts for weeks/months so you barely ever have to charge it. Don't even need the backlight turned on when reading in bright light. One will last you many years since it's not the kind of tech that sees significant improvements on a year to year basis.

If you know an ebook reader as big as a DS I'd like to see it XD meanwhile, I'll try DSlibris

The 6" ones (base/paperwhite Kindle, Kobo Clara HD, etc) aren't that far off. My Clara HD is the same height as an n2DS XL and much thiner, just about an inch wider.

A Kobo mini looks to be roughly the same height as a small DSi even :P (though I'd personally recommend something with a frontlight)

DSlibris is the best eBook reader for DS in my experience and actually quite good, but the DS just isn't a great device for reading on... The screens are just too small/low resolution (and that's from someone who hates large screens) and eInk is just much more pleasant to read on. I find 6" about perfect, though again I like small screens, many people prefer larger.

It at least doesn't appear to have any kind of page limit, tried it with a 1.5M word (~10k dslibris pages, I got bored halfway through at 5k as I don't think it can jump to chapter) book and it works fine, just took a couple minutes to load.

I've got a Kindle Paperwhite and I'm super satisfied with it. I also have this remote thingy that lets me turn pages while laying in bed, and this "gooseneck" that holds it in front of my face. The more I talk about it the more extreme I realize it sounds, but damn it I want to read in bed comfortably. In comparison with my DS Lite the overall screen size is larger than both DS screens combined, and like The Real Jdbye said you can turn off the backlight and such. I got mine for $30 on the FaceBook Marketplace, and if you just ask Amazon nicely they'll get rid of ads for you. Just make sure to convert epubs to MOBI with Calibre. It also reads Manga really good.

I don't want to get a Kindle because I'm done with anything Amazon, especially with the latest Prime price change. I'm going to check out the Kobo Mini though, if the homebrew suggested earlier doesn't work

That gooseneck sounds useful. I just prop it up on my blanket (OG Paperwhite)
I'm really happy with mine too :) Kept it on old FW because it's jailbroken and I never saw a reason to update it, well I can no longer use the Kindle Store but that's no great loss. I can still download Kindle content on PC and transfer it.

If I remember correctly, the issue I disliked the most about ereader homebrew for the DS was that they all had a real shity bookmark system. Every time I opened the app I had to find where I had left off. Was a real pain in the ass. That and the ereader apps for it were really clunky. As though the DS wasn't powerful enough. which is crazy because one would think if it could run games it would certainly be able to display a document. right?

Over the years I have accrued many different ereaders, tablets, and phones. Personally I dont mind reading from a phone. Actually I prefer it. I mean, thats mostly what phones are made for. well, that and cat videos and porn. What works best for me is to turn the back ground color of the ereader app to be a color easy on my eyes. usually tan fits that bill. For me, the most important thing is a good ereader app as apposed to hardware. Years ago I bought the app "Moon+ reader pro". I have used it every day since the day i bought it. It fucking rocks. I average a book or two a week. the combination of calibre and Moon+ work perfect together. If i'm reading a book on my phone, and then later I want to continue reading it on another devise, Moon+ keeps my book marks synced in the back ground. Tons of little things like that that makes it an awesome app.If u were to find the best DS homebrew ereader it wouldn't compare to a good app of your phone.

I wish u luck. when it comes down to it, it doesnt matter as much what technically is the better method as to what u prefer.

Yeah well thankfully it don't gotta be a Kindle for it to work with my setup, as long as it gots a touch screen. But at the same time, just don't buy Prime then? It's not like buying it second-hand nets them any money. And there's other ways to get books besides from Amazon.

I can only speak for the one I used, which is DSReader, using *.txt files as the source for the books. I liked using it because you could use any standard *.ttf font file. I personally used Arial with some of the settings tweaked for anti-aliasing and maybe making it bold, honestly kinda forgot.
