I was playing around with the CDi Emulator.

Here is a link: https://www.cdiemu.org/

The video part of the emulator actually works, but you need a rom for it.

I was playing "A Night in Nylon City" on it, but the damn thing kept locking up when I clicked on stuff.

I wish the guy working on it would fix up the issues. I put in an issue on github for the lockup problem.

This is the game I was playing.

Apparently the same-cdi core for Retroarch (which is taken from MAME's CDi emulation but made easier to use) is one of the better options, if you want to see if you have any more luck with that game.

Yeah, but it does not support the DVC. It is like a video player chip.
If it supported that, it would probably support all CDi games.

Burncycle and the Zelda games all run great on the Retroarch version. Those are probably the best games on the system.

Not supporting the DVC drastically reduces the library of games you can run.

The system also has a crappy version of the 7th Guest. That is probably the best game to test with. Lots of mouse clicking in that game.
If they got that one to work, probably all the other games would work.

The Phoenix emulator is really good. Runs 3DO games with no problems.

The Retroarch 3DO emulator is buggy.

They got a new version of the emulator. I will see what has been fixed.

Well, it turns out that the Nylon City game is still not fixed. The game locks up when you select your language.

Also, it have no idea how to release the damn mouse. The emulator locks it.

Well, I was playing with this emulator again an the damn thing is buggy.

Random freezing bugs cropping up in games.

It is really irritating. The creator needs to make it open source so a team can work on it.

It still annoys the hell out of me that the A Night in Nylon City game locks up.

It does it when you select the language of the game.

The emulator still runs when this happens. So, it is a bug with how it plays the cd.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
