When I was younger, my mom just couldn't eat chicken, nor pork, nor beef. We had to rely exclusively on fish and horse meat
Something fascinating about horse meat, is that contains much much less fat and cholesterol than other kind of meat, but also much more protein and vitamins, such as iron and vitamin B
What's more, most place selling horse meat will have its price cheaper than beef meat.
I remember, when I was at high school and I told people i was eating horse meat, they looked at me like i just killed puppies in front of them
Yes, horse meat was a taboo back then. However, at least here in quebec, it is much more common for people to eat horse meat.
Still, I didn't hear about any big restaurant franchise serving horse meat, so I guess it's still taboo enough so that restaurants don't want to "stain" their reputation by selling horse meat
