Ipod Mini touble

I looked all over the internet for help with my problem, but i keep getting the same answer. I have an Ipod Mini that i got from my cousin, no idea whether it is first or second gen mini. but all that is showing up is the apple logo. they said to reset it by holding the center and menu buttons, but the apple logo just keeps showing up and staying. My laptop is not recognizing it and i cant tell how close it is to dying. Anyone have any advice?

Its probably a problem with the motherboard. This happened to my brothers friend and a friend of mine and his father fixed it. You need to bring to an iPod repair person.

Piss. i kinda figured that. I wonder if i could take it to an apple store without them charging me and arm and a leg for a derelict ipod. i dont know anyone off hand who repairs ipizzles.
