I remember downloading anime episodes via IRC, too. It was fast and very convenient.only thing i ever used IRC for was to pirate. oh yes i've been pirating that long
My first experience was with 1200 baud so 56k did indeed feel lightning fast compared to that!fast? if you call a 56k modem fast that's what i had to put up with

discord exists and i wouldn't want to hang out there anyways knowing how many fascists the mods defend here as is.
Is IRC not dead nowadays? I mean, I mainly used it for downloading anime from fansub groups. Now most of those channels seem to be gone. Sadly it seems like fansubs might be dying in general, and simply replaced with encode grouips.

This is stupid. There are dozens of free servers you can officially migrate to. Discord is shit.
Indeed, I might recommend Libera.Chat (what split off from Freenode due to some disagreements between the staff about how the server should be ran)
I think GBAtemp would fit in nicely there, free/open source is very much in the spirit of hacking/homebrew, and it's one of the few big/active IRC networks that remain.
I registered #gbatemp.net on both IRCHighWay (irc.irchighway.net/6667 *¹) and Libera.Chat (irc.libera.chat:6697 (TLS)). Feel free to join either by clicking one of the links.

I'm doing good, just made my first drink of the day, so better now, Captain and Coke today. I had to cut grass all day, then get my hair cut. I messed with my wifey, she knew I was going to get hair cut, and I went and bought a purple dyed wig, and came home wearing it, she freaked out, thinking I dyed my hair purple, was funny.+1 -

Damn, I haven't been on here in while. My wife and I went on a mushroom trip like 10 years ago. A friend had a PS3TV with the glasses and some racing game. It hit when I was playing the game and I freaked out because I thought I was really driving and crashed. -
