Shit. I guess there will never be an exploit for later firmwares.
Actually, there is an exploit for 4.81/4.82 that is being worked on that will let compatible PS3s effectively downgrade to 3.55 via software so they can install a CFW.

And if the devs manage to crack lv2 after they release the exploit, consoles that can't downgrade to 3.55 will be able to at least have homebrew and the potential to run backups, just without a full CFW to do it with.

woah, woah, slow down. not all can. run miniverchk.PUP and make sure the minimum version is 3.56 or below. ELSE BRICK!!

Hence "majority" also, if you have a hardware flasher and a valid backup, you can recover. More importantly, it won't even patch if using the latest patcher as it would be detected before hand.

Hi :) I was just wondering if all PS3 Slim 120gb are compatible with PS3xploit... Wikipedia says they can be CECH-20xxA or CECH-21xxA, and I think both are suitable, right?

Hi guys, I have a Japanese PS3, and i did run the MinVerCheck.PUP on it, and it says it can go down to Update 3.72, the model number is CECH-3000B, i did read that i would have to figure out how to get it down to 3.55, but the only reason i want to hack it is to reverse the X/O buttons so i can play the games i have with the 'American Controls", and also if possible to set the DVD region to be able to play North American DVDs and not just Japanese. i have looked up some of the other options and have come across this update from the PS3Xploit team, saying that they can support the 4.82 and 3000 series of Slims. Although im not 100% sure if this includes my PS3. here's the link to the info page:

PS3Xploit wouldn't give the same full CFW access for your PS3 as we have for older Slims and all Phats. It should also be noted that PS3Xploit still does not support your 3xxx series PS3, at least not yet.

However, it'd likely give enough access that you could change the button layout for your PS3, which is basically what you want to do.

At the moment, PS3Xploit still doesn't publicly support 3xxx consoles (which is yours), but will at some point in the future, so you'll have to just wait it out.

Thanks for clearing that up Tom! i hope that one day i will be able to swap those pesky buttons, if i COULD get the DVD to region 1, that's just a bonus. but the buttons need to change.

Do you know if i would be able to UN-install the CFW and keep the button swap after?

CHEERS!

It wouldn't be a full custom firmware, more like a Homebrew Enabler.

But I would imagine you should be able to uninstall it and keep the changes. You might have to make them again, if the PS3 sees a firmware update, so IMO it might just be worth keeping installed.

I see, i will wait and bide my time then. its funny that the system recognizes SOME games and keeps the American control layout but then all of a sudden swaps buttons on others like Red Dead Redemption.
