Konami is bringing back the Metal Gear games it delisted

In a move that some may find surprising, Konami is bringing back some Metal Gear Solid games to digital platforms, after having delisted them late last year. Back in November, all releases that contained Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 were suddenly removed from sale on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Nintendo's 3DS eShop and GOG's storefronts. The reasoning for the removal was that Konami had decided not to renew the licensed war footage used in both games, and no word was given as to if either would be relisted again.

The news of Metal Gear games resuming sale on digital platforms was announced on the official Metal Gear JP Twitter account, and is happening as a celebration of the series' 35th anniversary--which is today, as the original Metal Gear game released on July 13, 1987. It wasn't specified which of the games will be coming back, as a fair few versions were delisted, including the Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita, and PS3 HD Collection, GOG's PC release of Metal Gear Solid 2, and the 3DS release of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D.

Konami should offer Kojima 10 million dollars to be creative consultant on the next game in the series, with complete creative control. Or let Kojima's new company develop the game for Konami.
Kojima wanted to remove David Hayter from being the voice of Snake as far back as mgs2. He also reportedly wanted to make "testing your health via urine" as a mechanic in mgs4... And kept pushing for it until the higherups received a petition to make him stop, because *nobody* wanted to work on or implement that.

Of course it was the first thing he implemented in Norman Reedus and the funky fetus. And well, nobody understood what the eff that game was about.

Kojima is the creative type that *needs* someone to rein him in.

Port collections and relisting their delisted ports truly sums up the current state of Konami's video game division. There's also eFootball PES, GetsuFumaDen which I haven't played yet, but does actually look good, and Super Bomberman R 2 is supposedly in development.

While I agree with the fact that very few people are using PS3 and Vita these days, I disagree with the part that it's being silly, because we, who still use the PS3 and Vita actively for finishing backlogs, trophy hunting etc. appreciate this move because not everywhere is easy to get a hold of a physical release and the few places we have sell it with a very high price, so it's a win-win situation, because they get money from it and we can buy the games. And it didn't cost them anything for listing it in the storefronts anyway. :)
At the end of the day the company should target the largest install base possible. There’s orders of magnitude more active PS4’s/Xbox One’s out there, not to mention that a release like that de facto also targets PS5/Series consoles in one fell swoop. Of course it’s nice that people who are still holding on to consoles that are 2 generations behind, but objectively speaking, those players can simply buy the game physically at any time and play. Current gen and previous gen players can’t play them at all, period. For the record, relisting titles isn’t free, and often requires renegotiating royalties for certain content, particularly music rights.

Metal Gear Solid 2 looks that much better? I'm pretty sure it ran at 60 FPS on console too.
Yeah the GoG version does for whatever reason. More particles and they seem to move at a higher rate. It almost puts the HD Collection to shame. The controls were fucked up, but apparently the latest update fixed that as well.

Good to know. I guess that's how I'll replay the game then.

Hope it's not fucking pachinko machines for gaming consoles with skins of MGS.
I remember some articles from around a year ago suggesting Konami was getting back into game development with some of their big IPs, but it's really something you'd have to see to believe at this point. My guess is that their casino game profits were taking a hit from COVID restrictions, so who knows if any of that is still on the table.

Hope that this is a sign that there will be new metal gear games (not like survive tho. Or maybe a remake of the first 2 games with modern graphics.
ah yes, because nothing screams "I'm a Hideo Kojima" fan more than dreaming about his work and legacy being butchered by "remasters" and "definitive editions" from one of the most greedy and anti-consumer non-gaming gaming company there is.
Because we all love to be able to unlock the FAMAS via microtransactions.
Pay $20 to shoot a stinger missle on Rex! oh you missed? That'll be another $20.
Metal Gear Pachinko FTW!

I'm no fan of anyone except myself and I thought it's funny to use Kojima name . You need to take a chill pill and not think too much in life.
