I'm wondering whats a good price point for a modded PSVita? Is it cheaper and advisable to just grab one off amazon and get the job done? Or are the ones on shelves locked out firmware wise or all modable?

all are modable, but not all can install enso. it depends on the base firmware, but I think most of the ones that are not compatible are Japan only ones. all pstvs should be compatible (think they came with 3.20 and 3.30 out of the box). the vita is one of the easiest consoles to exploit really, thanks to some amazing tools. the vita in its official state is almost unplayable due to restrictions, so I would exploit it if you get one.

Is it still available?
You're better off just buying a Vita yourself and hacking it as resellers tend to overcharge as they pretend they're doing a huge task to hack it, when they aren't.

I hacked my OLED Vita 3.60 and haven't used it for a while, kind of a shame it's really a superb handheld.

I also want this...
Dude, hacking a Vita is one of the easiest things to do.

And in case you need help, join the HENkaku Discord channel they'll for sure help you out. They helped me out.

The Launch Vita has an OLED screen which is pretty nice although the charging port is proprietary whereas the Slim Vita has a micro USB. However, if you use the official charging cable then it goes in smoothly while a 3rd party one feels like you have to force it in.

You can also mod the charging port for USB Type-C charging. I've done it.

I wish I knew, but physically modding hardware isn't something I've done or learned about.
Hacking the vita is for everyone! But you should have really decent soldering skills to do this. I wouldn't do this as a first soldering job.
Look at this for inspiration:

I can't solder something even if it was big as me. I still want to learn how to do it though. Besides, a local cellphone repair shop did it for me, since they have the required skills and the equipment.

At the same time It's also very funny, because as videogame collector soldering is probably one of the most important skills you'd want to have in your arsenal lol

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
