Its not as much as tired, its just that some of us thought 3D land was actually a new step in how they made Mario games, you know 3D platforming on a linear stage, to see them go right back to games like NSMB is dissapointing, especially after hearing them say they wanted to contend more to hardcores with the WiiU.
smh What does "hardcores" have to do with this Mario being a side-scrolling?
"2d isn't hardcore enough, GRR!!!!"

Lol, no. I ment that its just dissapointing to us who have played 2D marios to death and thought they were going to change it up in some way. TBH, the only reason I ever played 2D marios was because of the sprites, with 3D models it honestly looks lazy and stupid to me. By "Hardcores" I kinda just ment veterans of series. Plus let's be honest, the only reason NSMB was made was to attract casuals and younger kids to the series, both were REALLY easy, and that's without using all the super guides and yoshis and multiplayer hax.

Oh fuck it I'd still get it.

I will not be unless they add a Super Mario World-esque world map for their levels. Complete with hidden levels, hidden worlds, all that stuff. Otherwise, I have no interest in yet another way too simple side scroller.
Exactly my thoughts.
Instead of aiming for Super Mario Bros they should aim for Super Mario World.
I'm really into good 2D games so this Mario should be fun for me.

I'm gonna be honest: I genuinely fucking hated the New Super Mario Bros. series.
I've always liked the original Super Mario Bros. series, Super Mario world, etc. but that's because those were well-made really good games in relation to when they were released, and 'till now, when I play them, I'm still entertained due to the fact that that stuff made my childhood.

But with the NSMB series, Nintendo's really going downhill. It's just goddamn ridiculous that they've decided to release NSMB Wii *AFTER* releasing a great game like Super Mario Galaxy. I don't know about you guys, but I only played NSMB on the DS to keep my Nintendo fanatic reputation. But I guess I gave up with the Wii version. I still am a Nintendo fanatic, but these games are a disappointment and I really despise them.

I understand that Nintendo tries to have a "casual audience" and everything, but that does not mean it can't be delivered with a little bit of today's modern-day expectations from a game, like 3D. I am not buying this game due to disappointment. Hopefully the sales won't be as high as Nintendo expected so they can learn their lesson on this one.

Well Mario Galaxy 1&2 were that. For me they were the first true 3D Mario games to play like Mario games. 64 & Sunshine always felt like spin offs.

Either way...ITS JUST ONE FUCKING GAME! They also have another for the 3DS coming by the end of the year. Pretty sure Nintendo has another one lined up, may not appear for a couple of years but that's how they are.

I'm not sure if I'll get it, it depends on how original it is when it comes to level design and presentation.

The "New" style is starting to feel old and a different art direction would be much appreciated and needed for the wellbeing of the franchise, because it's the constant change of art style and originality in level designs and gameplay in series like Mario and Zelda that ultimately has have kept the franchises alive and relevant for the past 25 years.
Just look at the differences between all the Zelda games, there has always been something that makes each title unique and a world of it's own.

So please Nintendo, bring new original designs and mechanics and you got yourself a buyer.

BTW I'm still skeptical about this considering Miyamoto didn't mention it in the spanish interview, yes I did read it.

I was playing Donkey Kong Country Returns this morning and looks wise its a damn good looking game, would love to see what Retro could do on the Wii U with that series if they ever go back to it...but then there are so many games I'd love to see them bring back! The looks of NSMB series is pretty bland and with a console with better capabilities Nintendo are just wasting an opportunity to dazzle. We have however seen titles that were shown one year only to look completely different the next.

I'll keep buying Mario titles regardless of 2D or 3D. Why go for yet another NSMB when I could try one of the fan-generated hacks? Simple, I like how Ninty knows how to design a level.

The problem isn't if the New Super Mario Bros games were good or not, they were excellent platformers in fact, especially the Wii one.
What we don't want is another Mario title using almost exactly the same style and mechanics.
We already have 2, well arguably 3 games with 3D land, that uses very similar designs, just look at the difference between Mario 3 and Mario World, both games share the same universe but are very different in terms of gameplay mechanics, music and visuals.
It wasn't just a game with improved graphics and a set of new levels like when comparing NSMB to NSMBW, it was a whole new experience rather than just another sequel.
While I don't usually complain about sequels to good games I would much rather have something fresh, even more so given the new processing power as Hadrian mentioned.

Personally I never liked the style of the New series that much, I would've preferred a style akin to Wario Land on the Wii or Mario Galaxy but in 2D.
What I do loved about those games were the physics, the very accurate controls made the games perfect for speed runs and stuff like that.

Well you might right on that point and IMO is because lately Nintendo are releasing too many Mario games and because they have done almost everything with Mario even taking him to the space. Could be good a Mario & Luigi game for the WiiU with awesome graphics o maybe a Sunshine sequel(But people hated Sunshine so...).
