Hi

I purchased a migswitch online and waiting for it to arrive. I have downloaded a few XCI files but I have been reading I also need certificate and bin files to play the games ?

Is there a way around this ? Like an app for a pc that will create the files I'm looking for?
I don't ever play online (my switch hasn't ever seen a WiFi connection)
I didn't purchase the migswitch dump tool

You've wasted your own money on a flashcart whereas you can get somebody to chip your Switch for you. There are currently reports of people being banned from their Switch while playing their legitimate games online with the Mig Switch. A chipped/softmodded Switch is a safer alternative compared to a $70 POS.

I don’t care for online gaming I never play any game online, here is the UK we don’t have skilled people that I would trust modding my switch

No, why didn't you research before buying it?
I did but obviously not enough thought there would be a certificate and bin file out there to download

If I was to buy the Dumper (from migswitch) could I use one my games files to play other XCI files ?
From what I've gathered, each game cartridge comes with five different files you need for the game to work: 1) base game, 2) initial data, 3) certificate, 4) card id set and 5) card uid. Any XCI files found online will need to be redumped with matching initial data files. Otherwise, they are useless for the MIG Switch at the moment. The rest of the files apparently can be taken from a cheap donor game, renamed accordingly.

Now, what kind of telemetry your console will collect is unknown, I guess. I've heard that people had no issues so far playing games that way, other than that one questionable banned user that posted on reddit and deleted their post shortly after.

Unless you have a hacked Switch, you won't be able to extract all the additional files you need from a cheap donor game. I wouldn't download any random cert files from the Internet as those will be used by people that don't care about getting their consoles banned.

Not unless you get initial data file for that game at the very least. It must match the game you're about to put on your MIG Switch, there's no way around it (for now?).

None at the moment.

The MIG cart itself is already elusive enough as it is with many orders still being unfufilled or just outright cancelled. It's even worse for the dumper. I don't think there's any normie in the world who has gotten one outside of a few prototypes for youtubers. Many of those shops are accepting orders for the dumpers without any sort of indication or guarantee that the dumper would be going into mass production.

As such, I think it would be more prudent to plan around a situation where you are unable to get your hands on a dumper.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
