Currently the crafting table is not yet functional (Instead, simply go to "Crafting" and it will show all available recipes). That is also planned for the upcoming release.

Well, right now you can save and load maps, so that is technically supported, although currently only one map can be saved and loaded to meaning you have to keep swapping files in and out to use multiple maps. For mods, since its open source, they can just be built directly into the source. Otherwise, CoolAs actually made his own programming language, originally with the idea that it would be used for mods in Mine DS, although it hasn't had much progress on the DS side, so it most likely will not get built into it.
