Hi, I recently found my old PSX model SCPH-9002 with modchip. I tried burning ISS Pro Evolution 2 with imgburn and during the verify process it gave me something like LBA misconception error. Tried the game anyway and it does not work so I decided to burn another one and this time the entire process gave me no error whatsoever. Tried the game on my PSX and it does not work too. To see if maybe the modchip didn't work I found an old burned disc, was pretty scratched too, and that worked so the modchip is not the problem.

Now I don't know what the problem is. To burn the discs I'm using a LiteOn iHAS-124B, it's the same that I use to burn XGD3 360 games. Could it be that the modified firmware is causing problem? Or are the discs the problem? I'm using Verbatim with MID: 97m17s06f (Moser Baer India) and the minimum supported speed is 16x with max 52x. I have no Idea if they are good or not.

Now I don't have anymore CD-R so I need to buy others. There is a preferred brand with a specific MID? For the Xbox 360 for example you needed Verbatim with MID MKM-003. There is something specific like that for the PS1? Or like I said before could it be that because the CD burner has a modified firmware it can cause problems with burning regular disc?

I hope you can help me.

Moser Baer are not great. If I could choose, I'd go with some Sony CD-Rs as those are still Sony OEM and work great for all sorts of burning games. I seem to get the most successful burns out of them.

However, I think your console is at fault if it won't read a disc brand. No worries, it is an easy fix if you have an analog oscilloscope and a few 20 minutes.

1. Burn a music CD full of tracks on the same media you will play games on. Make sure it is very full and will fit no more songs on it.
2. Open up the top of the PS1 and stick a piece of foam or paper in the drive door sensor to make it think it is closed.
3. Solder a wire onto test pad CL710 and clamp the scope's probe onto it. Hook ground onto the metal case.
4. Boot up console with music CD on, go to last track, and play it on repeat.
5. Adjust scope to (roughly) 500nS time/division, and .02 volts/division. You should see an "eye" pattern as it is called in the service manual.
6. Make sure there is no clipping at the top and bottom of the eye pattern; make it match the one from this service manual on page 5.

7. Once you are done, unsolder wire, and seal it back up, it'll be good to go playing games!

The reason for this is that the console's laser intensity needs to be readjusted for non-pressed media that may or may not be warped more than a non-pressed media disc (different standards) as well as laser age.
