Need help understanding deltaX patcher for a DS game.

I'm trying to apply a patch to pokemon platinum to get refined platinum. I got the patch from here: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/5667/ I applied the patch but I'm kind of confused. I don't see a new file anywhere after the patch was applied. Does that mean the patch just applied to the rom I used but just didn't change the name or anything?

I don't know about the command line xdelta patcher, but the gui does output a new file.

That's the one I was using. It wasn't make a new copy. Regardless I figured out the rom was patched even if it didn't make a new one.

Does that mean the patch just applied to the rom I used but just didn't change the name or anything?

if I remember correctly, xdelta applies the patch directly to the original rom. you can patch online on https://www.marcrobledo.com/RomPatcher.js/. it creates new file after patching.
