Hacking Need help with my r4 cards

I own 3 different r4 flash carts that I haven't been using in a long time but I want to start using on my N3ds. I have an original r4 cart that I used on my ds days, an r4i rts gold that I know worked on my old 3ds, and a gateway blue card I also used before. Now, I have been trying to get these to work on my N3DSxl with latest Luma cfw but I haven't gotten them to work or even appear in the card slot icon. I have even tried using apache thunder's flash cart launchers which also supports the old r4 flash cart but it only say that an error occurred and to turn off 3ds. Can anyone please help me on what I need to do to get any of these carts to work.

Have you updated the card's kernels?

Otherwise you won't get them to work.

I have updated the carts kernel's but still nothing.

Be sure to use a 2gb or lower micro sd card on those old r4 cards.
