I remember looking at the past posts about the game, and I just wanted to make sure... is this a hack&slash/rpg? Or am I just making up stuff?

is this an Action RPG ? or more akin to strategy type?

I define it a "kill'em all" RPG..
the only task is to kill every enemy you see in real-time (as zelda)
the enemies will drop equipments and stuff.. and give you XP

my opinion about this game (I've played it some times ago):

Nice graphics,but really poor storyline and dept..
more an action game than a RPG.

i give it a 7/10 well if I'll have time me or someone from the staff provide something like a review..

The game reminds of Shining Force for Genesis. Is this based off of Shining Force, just without that tactical part?

Check here for the tutorial. However, the server often have connection problems so you might not be able to get in on first try, I suggest you try searching on the web instead. IRC is the best place to find roms thought.

Shining soul is closest to shining wisdom on saturn than on shining force on genesis. Nothing comparable to PSO on Dc where there was a true story extremely hidden and interessant side quests and download quests (where the story was developped in fact). Giving a 7/10 to this game is quite generous knowing that the game play. What i don't appreciate is that this game lives on a name the "shining" series but is just a commercial game. As a shining addict i will play it to the end (just to see if there is any link with the serie but i think there is none, just probably the shining sword displayed in this game for a commercial reason) and hoping that shining soul 2 will be better however.

SEGA sur GBA c'est n'importe quoi.
