Don't expect being able to "update" the official Minecraft port pretty easily. There's no source for it obviously, and only a port of the newer Minecraft is to be considered... which is unlikely to be made.
Yes, it's "basically just have to let the 3DS to run Java code" but it's far more complex than that and would very likely require more optimization from the default Minecraft game to run decently on the 3DS. And the official port does lag a bit per moment, despite the impressive work and restrictions applied to it.
So, just expect to play it on your Phone. Either the Pocket edition officially or use a third-party Java edition launcher for Android like PojavLauncher.

@The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
