The Activision games (CoD and Goldeneye) stopped working this year. However, there are people still playing with some kind of work-around.

You can still connect to those games?
I believe what happened is some time earlier last year Nintendo did some server maintenance and in the process broke the NWFC servers. It's why all NWFC games now say "the server is busy" instead of the discontinuation message. (Curiously this also happens in some of the video streaming apps) Alongside that though, they also broke the connection method the Activision games used to play online, so while I do think the servers are still up, you need a cheat code to access them.

You just saved the day! My bro was over and I wanted to have his mind blown seeing black ops wii online. As you may have guessed we got the same message. I wonder when it'll shut down for good? 2025? 2050?

Wait-- so Activision is still paying for the Wii (and I would assume DS) servers? Talk about commitment
Not the DS servers, those used GameSpy, but the Wii servers are still up! They seem to keep all Call of Duty servers up, even if there's a lot of issues with the old servers. The Wii versions won't let you connect without a cheat code, but the PS3 versions of Call of Duty won't even let you connect unless you used your account on the servers before 2019. Not sure what's going on there, but at least new users can still access the Wii servers if they can install the update as a WAD (because Wii Shop Channel shut down) and use the cheat to get on the servers.

I think Wiimfii might work if the default servers don't.

I could join but the ping would be bad (in China; European version of the game). Perhaps the game has finally reached an age which makes arranged dates necessary. Some games (e.g. Nitro Bikes) had to resort to this much earlier. BTW I read a cheat code is needed to access the servers. Is it complicated? (I am using GX loader)
Also, you might want to try a different time of day. There might actually still be hundreds of players.

Nope, Wiimmfi does not support the Call of Duty games as they use an entirely different server type than the Nintendo WFC did, and they would have to reverse engineer those servers much like they did the Nintendo WFC servers.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
If you just want pi for emulation no point when Anbernic releases new shit every two seconds
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
What's really cool about Pi's tho is you can have multiple SD cards with different OS on each SD card and change from say a gaming machine to a full fledged pc if wanted
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Plus all bios are set up and usually includes at least 128gbs or 64
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah but if your main goal is just to play n64 and GameCube you can save about $50 and have the portability option

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
True, but on 2 monitors at 4k. Its just want you want really, to each they own.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
For a kids aspect Anbernic would be the better option they'd probably melt over the price on a good 4k display

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
For that texasroo guy, I'd recommend the Spell and speak as his first system.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
So they buy a pi5 kit for about $150 and say a 28" 4k display probably looking around $400 total
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They'll be getting in the territory of portable Pcs anyway

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They could use HD out on their TV no real need for a monitor these days tbh the purists will disagree
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I'm kind of phasing out on the need for wanting all these consoles cool to have but they just become dust build ups
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I here ya there, I have too many myself, and have hard time letting them go, since most of mine I've modded at some point. Anymore I just play Switch on the go, seriesx at home.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    ack my throat
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I need to invest in some storage totes tbh
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:

    Tootles
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Tootles? Wtf
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Oh tootles
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
