Actually there was more to CDs than just FMVs, for starters they were cheaper and quicker to produce in comparison to carts, which was attractive to publishers.

This was also around the time that CDs were starting to better take advantage of the format, but even if it was just because of FMVs.....FF VII was still one of the PS1's best selling games.

Had they adopted CDs, they might have still had support from companies such as Square.

Speaking of marketing, one thing to consider, the PS1 was also marketed towards adults and multiple games which were popular at the time but not available on the N64 such as Tomb Raider. IIRC they also had PS1s in places such as the Ministry of Sound nightclub.

I also heard that in Japan on launch, because of Sony's pricing strategy which gave retailers a larger cut, they were actually pushing PS1s because it was more profitable for them.

Overall I think there were multiple factors which contributed to the PS1s relative success compared to the N64.

Dear god...
It all started when Nintendo made playing cards.

The gamecube outsold the saturn & dreamcast combined.

The Wii outsold the ps3 and xbox 360, the switch has now outsold the Wii & it's on the heals of the ps4.

Hell, they even used the GCN's CORE and implemented it in the Wii so that people could forget that the GCN ever existed.

Not exactly, it started out as a prototype controller. modchips and the realization that new controllers rarely achieve any level of market penetration means that a new console was inevitable.
Yeah, I hate to break it to you, but Nintendo actually did make the Wii to keep minds off the GCN.

I don't really get this.
A fall from grace that was started with the Mario Movie in 1993? That's a long time.
Nintendo seems fine to me.

The Switch is a success
Animal Crossing is popular than ever
Nintendo has a better understanding of a community and most if not all their releases are released worldwide

There are things they need to improve on for sure, but they've definitely improved
It caused Nintendo to not make another tiein for twenty years, and given that sour events can change companies, Bob Hoskins could have been a player.

If the N64 had been CD based, Final Fantasy would have stayed on Nintendo systems. It's the reason FF7 has the blocky look. It was originally being developed for the N64. The N64 was a shit system with only a few decent games and shit controls.

There are some hidden gems.
Conker's Bad Fur Day is still underappreciated to this day.

I agree, however, the complete lack of interest from 3rd party studios between the SNES and the N64 that also carried over to the Gamecube and hit rock bottom on the Wii U hurt Nintendo a lot. Nintendo has been singlehandedly carrying their consoles for a very long time now. I'm surprised they haven't gone the way of Sega or SNK yet.

Yes, I kinda think you do need to explain what went wrong? As far as I'm aware the pandemic was extremely lucrative for Nintendo, with millions of people buying Switch and games to get them through the lockdowns.

Youre right about that. The number of Switch consoles in our house increased from 1 to 3 in March 2020, because of the obvious surplus of free/idle time on the horizon.

Naming the Wii U the Wii U would probably be the biggest one

Even going back to the Wii itself ... despite the huge success and money it made for Nintendo, the day they revealed that console to the world, when everyone had been hyped up to expect a space-age VR headset and what-not, as the "Wii" .... I don't think I've ever seen a more outrageous day on the internet since. A billion heads exploded.

triggered.

I still play N64 all the time. I do use a Retrobit "Tribute64" wireless controller though, to save wear and tear on my real controllers.

Far as I can recall, the N64 was the first major system with an analog joystick as standard on the controller. Sega made a special controller for "Nights into Dreams" but the default Saturn controller didn't have stick(s). The Playstation launched with no sticks or rumble on the controller, then they were added in response to N64. (Sony had this habit of doubling Nintendo's innovations ... you like those L and R shoulder buttons on the SNES? Ours has 2 L's and 2 R's!! You like that analog stick on N64? Well now ours has 2! What's that?? They have rumble? Well now ours has 2 of that too!!)

So being the first to have an analog stick, it's not that surprising that Nintendo didn't get it positioned perfectly. As a result, the N64 has maybe the best d-pad ever. Hardly ever use it, but it's awesome.

A good controller doesn't do a lot of good when there weren't many good games for the system. It still had shitty graphics too.

Lol Nintendo lost their creativity? :rofl2:
While every other console focuses on simply beefing up their specs and nothing else, Nintendo continues to mold the indusrty with brand-new ideas like the motion controls on the Wii, dual-screen with the DS, home console portability of the Switch.
PS and MS seem to be competing for who can make the ugliest PC clone.

Blew me away the first time I played it, SM64 on a demo kiosk at a Blockbuster.
Yes. First time I played...wait for it...Diddy Kong Racing lol, in ToysRUs.
I knew right away what I wanted for Christmas 1997.
I am sure I was bias back then since I had an N64 only, but I always found the PS1 graphics to be very pixelated.

Insurance is one those things you pay all your life for, no questions asked, all is fine, they take your money. And as soon as you make a claim or something happens, they never want to payout or help, just fight you on everything if it cost them any of your money.
