Mario Kart's code on the 'Temp thread is
Code:
520775D0 00001555
020775D0 00001C72
D2000000 00000000
by @KazoWAR
or
Code:
920775D0 00001555
120775D0 00001C72
D2000000 00000000
920789BC 00001555
120789BC 00001C72
D2000000 00000000
by @KazoWAR
which i would interpret as looking at address 020775D0 (and possibly 120775D0 and 1207898BC - use Find and see where the relevant value shows up?) and replacing value 1555 with 1C72 (it may show up as 55 15, in which case you replace it with 72 1C).
The DeSmuME forum gives
but I am not sure what this actually does.
You could also use DSATM
https://www.gamebrew.org/wiki/DSATM to patch the codes into the .nds without doing the hex editing yourself.
New Soup needs to work differently as it's a 2D game and we can't squash the viewport in the same way. There is a video here:
with a patcher here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5mrrwp92i7qq38f/nsmbws.xdelta?dl=0 to make the game run in 16:10 for the 3DS. Then you can inject that .nds and muck about with the screen layout to get the aspect ratio correct. The DeSmuMe forum has a 16:9 code
Code:

0200DC5C E3A00EC3
0200AE48 E3A03000

you could inject with DSATM.
In any case I would recommend trying to run the patched games first on DeSmuMe on your computer before sending them to the Wii U, in case what you tried causes as crash - there's no point spending time injecting and installing a game that definitely doesn't work.
