Howdy all,
So recently with the news that the 3ds eshop was closing I grabbed pokemon crystal and learned that you could import a cartridge save onto a custom firmware 3ds. I decided that it was time to keep my pokemon crystal save safe long term and used my retron5 to create a backup, then moved it to my computer and turned it into a .sav. I wanted to test to see that it was working so I ran it in VBA and it showed an error. After that, I tried pkhex to see if I could learn more. I think the issue I'm having is that the save is, even after converting to .sav, only 21-ish kb, whereas it seems to need to be about 32kb. I don't know how to use hexeditors and so I don't know if just dropping a bunch of zeroes would work to increase the save file without introducing new and exciting issues. If anyone knows of a way to fix this like a program or whatever else, I'd be greatly appreciative. I wanted to post the file on here, but .sav is not a permitted file type.
