THIS ROMHACK IS CURRENTLY BEING ENTIRELY REWORKED. AS SUCH, THIS CURRENT VERSION/ROMHACK IS NOT SUPPORTED PAST SWORD/SHIELD 1.0, AND NO UPDATES WILL MADE. I AM USING THIS THREAD TO SHOWCASE UPDATES ON THE REWORK, WHICH WILL BE A MUCH MUCH MORE INDEPTH EXPERIENCE. PLEASE BE PATIENT UNTIL THE REWORK COMES OUT.

NOTICE: I likely will not be updating this mod to work with new patches until all of (or maybe just one of) the DLC is out. When the DLC releases, we will have a LOT more Pokemon to work for in terms of team building and editing wild Pokemon. With that in mind, I hope everyone looks forward to the DLC. Until then if you want to use this mod, please make sure you are on the base version of the game.
Context time! I made popular (But not too indepth) romhacks for SM & USUM, most notably Rising Sun & Waxing Moon. However, this time, things are different! This time I bring to you all a fully featured difficulty hack. Hundreds of Pokemon have had their Hidden Abilities made easily obtainable, stats buffed, abilities buffed, and enhanced movesets! For all of these changes & more, see the gdrive folder with the download and all documentation.

Changes:
  • All important trainers have 6 Pokemon and and are much more difficult. (Hop begins to have 6 after the 1st gym)
  • Important trainers also have manually changed movesets, abilities, natures, and even IVs and EVs assigned. They also have the smartest AI assigned to them.
  • Level curve expected to naturally provide you with high level Pokemon. Trainers will have Pokemon around and usually slightly higher leveled than that of your own. (GROSSLY SUBJECT TO CHANGE, PLEASE RELAY TO ME WHAT THE LEVEL CURVE IS LIKE IN YOUR EXPERIENCE. THIS SHOULD NOT REQUIRE AN INSANE AMOUNT OF GRINDING)
  • Hundreds of Pokemon have had their stats buffed, hidden abilities made available, and enhanced movesets. Some even have type changes, or completely new abilities available.
  • Evolution methods changed for trade Pokemon. See documentation.

Disclaimer & Important Information
  • The post game is currently unedited.
  • The wild Pokemon are currently unedited in terms of level and where they appear.
  • This has been made in mind with the exp share enabled and usage of Max Raid battles to gain exp candies. If you are falling behind in levels, go to the wild area and grind on raids. The no EXP share patch is completely optional and this hack was not made with it in mind.
  • This is a first beta release, please give any and all feedback, especially on the existing level curve.
  • I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BANNED CONSOLES. OBVIOUSLY DO NOT PLAY ONLINE WHILE USING THIS ROMHACK.
Instructions:
  • Download the Pokemon Sacred Sword & Kings Shield.rar in the gdrive folder.
  • Rename the folder in the .zip file to the proper titleid if needed. Sword: 0100abf008968000 Shield: 01008db008c2c000
  • Place this titleid folder in atmosphere\titles or sxos\titles depending on what cfw you use.
  • Launch the game with CFW active!
  • If you want only the trainer edits, go into the romfs folder and delete the folder titled "pml"

Any news on the new version? I was wondering to play the 1.0 version but my Switch don't let me play pokemon on that version anymore.

We made it quite clear in our announcement post that we want to take our time with this project and it can take up to a few months until its completed.

There hasn't been any updates because we've decided to not post as much so we don't get everyone's hopes up for a pace/release window. I still plan on posting some of the major parts of my playtesting, but even with the original release I didn't post much more than a few gyms.

The reason why there hasnt been many updates though is because a lot of the work is done in drafting and applying the changes to Pokemon stats, abilities, and movesets that we want to make. It takes a LOT of time.

Guys, stop asking for updates. It'll get done when it gets done. I've been lurking this thread for updates too because I'm excited to play the next release but this is something Kobazco and some others are doing for free in their spare time. I am grateful the only personal investment I give up in order to play this mod is my own patience. Thanks for working on this project Kobazco!

Thats the thing though, the project isn't something we work consistently on enough for me to feel like it'd be ok to do that. I don't want to give people false hope because one week I might have a ton of time and motivation and get half the game done but then suddenly I can't work on it for a month or maybe more. Not saying that I won't give progress reports when I feel as if its worth it (I just thought of a cool idea that I'll hopefully get around to doing soon), but based on previous experience with this kind of stuff, I feel as if its better to not give false hope or hype.

I hope everyone understands that, as well as my twitter is NOT focused on Pokemon/this project. It IS somewhere I will post important updates, but I'll also post them here more likely than not.

Here's a small update on my plans:

Before I can do anything that isn't Pokemon stat/moveset changes, I want to try my hand at learning how to do various changes to the game's code in order to implement the following ideas. Here they are and how likely each one is to happen:

  • Reimplementation of cut moves. (Already done! DOESNT WORK WITH ANIMATIONS ON YET THOUGH!!)
  • Soft EXP cap. Would require modifying of the EXP formula, would create an experience similar to Pokemon Radical Red. (Probably possible, but not cleanly)
  • Forced to Set style. (Unsure if possible, if not, removal of knowing which Pokemon is coming in next on Switch style.
  • Inability of using the Bag in trainer battles. (Won't know until I find the relevant code for battle commands. If not, removal of battle items at the LEAST)
  • Editing of in game shops.
  • Reimplementation of the Switch Pokemon AI type. (SwSh AI won't swap their active Pokemon, even with the flag enabled)
  • If I can get the above AI change to work, possible AI adjustments.
This is the main reason why I haven't committed to making any real progress in terms of trainer battles/game progression. I've been spending a lot of time thinking about what is probably possible and worth pursuing, as well as doing a ton of testing in regards to it. (Like getting cut moves to work again, which IS working outside of animations.)

I hope everyone understands that when I said I wanted to make this romhack something special, I meant it. That's why I'm sorry but I can't and won't be giving often progress reports or any of that. I want to take my time getting a working framework as well as developing my own skills first. Thanks for everyone who is supportive.


Oh, and if anyone has experience with code (exeFS) editing SwSh/Switch games in general, please let me know! That's the main thing that I don't have much of an idea of where to start/what tools to use. A hex editor can only get me so far, after all.

Could you tell me if everything works fine in 1.0 version during all game, up to Elite Four? I haven't play Sword and Shield yet, and it takes too much time to wait for the final version of hack..

I do want to look into NPCs but its probably not possible/worth the amount of time and research that would go into it just for it to probably not work.

Just wanted to say, what an amazing job you've done thus far. I just tried restarting the game but had zero drive to try new Pokemon because of how painfully easy I gave up after the first gym.

I'll wait patiently until your happy with the finished product for the main game (not including any DLC) to play through it and finish the main part, don't care for updated DLC, can't wait, thanks again for all your hard work.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to let you all know that no matter how much time passes between progress being made, this project is always on my mind. I recently just started my winter break and hopefully I'll be able to look into the various code edits I wanted to get working for the mod (starting with modifying the exp formula) I hope everyone knows that its going to take quite a long time to get the base for the romhack that I want working before I can start working on trainers and stuff. Hope everyone has a good Christmas and I'll continue doing my best!

thats awesome i really liked that you gave hop the alola starters in this new update can I reccomend you give him a hoenn starter to round out his water fire grass trio for example if he has scorbunny give him a swampert with the decidueye he already has

I ended up doing quite a bit of work, including moving Medicine and Battle items to the "Other Items" tab in order to make them unusable in battle.

Also got the stat checker added in from the game start and changed the vague words to the ranges of the IVs
