Yeah, and every rom on it I own the actual physical card. the r4 is simply for convenience, because I don't like to have to bring all my cards with me when I travel.
my bad, you're the perfect little angel ;) you must feel kinda out of place on this site haha
but you definitely have a point about it being morally wrong, no one's denying that

I never said I was perfect lol. I pirate games if I am unsure if I will have interest or not (or if im low on cash). If I do then I buy it. I do have over 200 games in my steam library :P

In this scenario yes its quite wrong simply because all they are doing is using api calls from actual niantic servers to show pokemon locations( An API that i might add was already developed for them by the people who cracked it that they only had to port over to Obj-C/Swift/C++/C#/Java or w/e language the app was coded in). I understand they would like money. But to outright charge for it even after a time trial is quite irresponsible. Not only because its obviously morally wrong but also because its gonna be an easy C & D from Niantic or Nintendo. They would be better off keeping it free and just have a way to donate. Donating would be much more acceptable and with it being a utility for this popular a game they would certainly receive donations here and there.

Do you actually have a point? I do actually own the ds cards that i have on the r4. And yes I do pirate occasionally. As I said I often times end up buying what I pirate anyways. Either way lets actually stay on topic here. I really don't have to sit here and explain my life's story to random people on the internet. I defended my post and admitted im not perfect just to give some credibility to my name. I don't really have to justify it to you lol.

@T-hug

Thanks for the share !

A bit on the fence weather or not to use this myself...but if others are able to make this work for them...cool ^_^"

Also, it is always nice to see @Costello replying back to members in the public forum.

Anyhow, back to playing "ROTDS" until Sun/Moon comes out.

ohhh yes the conspiracy theories, keep them coming, we always have a good laugh with them on the staff forum :D tell you what... when regular members become mods and get to see the inner secret places with all the hidden stuff that's staff-only, they are always somewhat disappointed to find out there's no secret porn or ROM stash, no secret plot to rip off our members, nobody paying us to bias our reviews... I imagine for some of them it's a letdown to realize that GBAtemp is actually just a plain old independent community.

seriously, if you knew the least bit about GBAtemp you'd know there isn't anything of the sort involved. We're just proud to have exclusivity over the news because the creators like our site, that's all there is to it.
It would have helped to include the information that someone that likes the site showed this to you and notified you of its existence, in the OP. Would have cleared out of a ton of things.

I mean, look at it from the perspective of someone who didn't know about the detail you told us/has no access to insiders forum:
You open your news site of choice. In the front page, there's an article mentioning a completely unknown/irrelevant (not meant as an insult, just that nobody knows about it) product, in a sea of similar products that all try to accomplish the same thing without a unique reason to be picked instead of others. It also doesn't work properly. There is literally no other information about it on the internet. The article just highlights the product and that's it. What would be the first thing that comes to your mind? Sounds like a typical ad strip doesn't it? Can't really blame people for assuming the most obvious thing when given no information in my opinion.

I've been in and out very recently, so I actually hadn't seen to much about our exclusive story or whatever with PokeNavGo.

To be blunt and honest, the app is garbo. I live in Charlotte, which is prime time for spawns of pokemon, and after doing 3 scans it didn't even show anything in the area. Even though using Pokemesh showed everything I could see on my nearby and more.
Also the pay for scans is really dumb. Of course you don't have to use them/don't have to pay for them, same as any other anything that offers microtransactions, but i'm sure as hell not gonna try to pay for broken scans in the first place.

Will say, don't let the exclusive fool you or whatever, this isn't paid advertisement. Basically the exclusiveness of it is in hopes of driving traffic for the site, something that benefits the whole community and let's us flourish so we don't inevitably get taken over by the influx of freaking furries we've had lately.

It's okay to report news, but you should maybe try/test the app and see if it is worthy of a gbatemp post. I really have a high regard to this site, and seeing a post for this type of app (which does barely work) and with where you actually have to pay to scan 2 pidgeys....no

EDIT=

I hope nintendo brings down this app ASAP! (I can't believe I am saying this)

We certainly needed a larger sample size. The developer was stingy and only let Thug test it out and it worked perfectly for him. Yes, that should have been a red flag but we believe it was because the dev didnt want one of us to leak it (he only talked to Thug). We had our reservations, especially after learning about the pay wall. Unfortunately it wasn't until after it was posted that we all got access to the apk to see it was garbage.

I'm also just talking on behalf of myself and not the site.

Sorry GBATemp staff, I *usually* stand by your decision, but I find this to be ridiculous. The concerns of the people who replied are legitimate. It would've better off having this "promoted" as a review, listing pros and cons. GBATemp is one of the biggest sites in the video game scene, and to see an article making it sound like a big thing, just because someone approached you with it.

I honestly never did and probably never will play the game, so I don't care one bit about how this goes. But I think quality control show be always be in effect.

And now.. just so that this post doesn't sound like a shitpost with no added value whatsoever, my best friend told me that the best app he tried is called "GoRadar". From what I understand, it does everything this one does and more, completely free.

It looks like someone is getting taken for a ride here at GBAtemp. That's what it looks like on the face of it, at any rate.

I'm using one of those apps where you have to create a new account for it. Seems to work well enough, and fills in the gaps that the game itself lacks. I'm still considering it in open beta, so 3rd party apps are really just filling in gaps they'll get around to eventually.

See now this reply is something I respect. Honest opinions and complete stories. In my opinion, it doesn't matter if the staff made a mistake in promoting this. It's a fan site afterall, ran by video game fanatics. No one expects perfection. What I found to be annoying was some of the staff coming to it's defense, just to refuse admitting that a mistake was made or something.

Either way, my personal opinion is that the best way to promote it is an non-biased review, not this thread. Not everything gets reviewed on the site, so to have a review is in itself a promotion. How the developer deals with the negative results, and reinforces the positive results is up to him. The quality of reviews on the temp is actually what brought me to this site almost 10 years ago, and It sure is the only way to be completely fair to both dev and readers/members.

I thought Niantic has blocked third-party app access to their servers because of server strain. Did they unblock them?
No. The "Block" was cracked 4 days after they "blocked" them lol. Been working fine ever since as long as they were updated with new api.
