So I've had two Modbo 4.0 chips for years laying around, 10m of solder, I bought lengths of wire in both aug gauges needed, and a soldiering iron. But I'm too scared to try and install it I've just had this stuff laying around for years. Should I just buy a modded memory card just so I can play games, and just emulate ps1 stuff. Or should I bite the bullet and try to solider this thing to my PS2.

A big attraction for a mod chip is to automatically run imports and backups from the disc tray. Closer to the way it's intended to work, and useful for games with compatibility issues via ESR patches or HDD loaders.

Although I wouldn't call ps2 the best choice to get started. Other consoles have easier mod chips to practice on.

if you already have a memory card, im sure you could ship it to someone and they would happily mod it for you. as for ps1 games, ive found that running them from a physical disc is best. i havent had much luck converting psxgame.iso to vcd then loading them from a harddrive. its kind of a bitch.

Where are you located? I do tons of PS2 mod chip installs.
