PS3 Hacking AIO

NOTE: This TuT is unorganized for now, it's just me jotting down all the info as I remember it, I will fix it when I get home.
The PS3 AIO Tutorial - For Newbs

Terms
There are many terms that are going to be used throughout this tutorial, so here is what they mean.
QUOTE said:
AIO -> All In One (As in, everything is included)
PS3 -> PlayStation 3 (The Game System)
Firmware -> Basically referring to the Operating System of the PS3
Operating System -> The working conditions of a electronic device, or computer (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.)
XMB -> Xross Media Bar the operating space of the PS3 and other Sony devices.
OFW -> Original Firmware (Firmware made by Sony)
CFW -> Custom Firmware (Firmware made by Hackers, 3rd parties, etc.)
MFW -> Modified Firmware (This is basically barely edited CFW)

Needed
- PS3 -> ANY PS3! (With a working BD, and at least 1 USB)
- Firmware version of 3.55 or lower (anything higher is unhackable/downgradable)
- Flash Drive -> Should probably be 256mb or more
- A computer, it can be Windows, Linux, Unix, or Mac.
- Noob Brain

Custom Firmware's
Kmeaw's - This is probably the most stable/used CFW, and has the best compatibility.
Rebug's - A CFW meant to bring Debug features to Retail units, but this CFW is probably unstable (According to Mathieulh)
Waninkoko's - If you use this CFW MAKE SURE IT'S V2! V1 caused MANY bricks, mending your PS3 unusable.
Hermes' - I don't know much about this CFW..
Their are tons more, but these are the general ones.

"Jailbreaking"

Jailbreaking is something used back when hacking ps3's first came out, you had to be on 3.41 or lower firmware, than you had to stick a dongle into the PS3, power cycle (flip the switch, or unplug it), than press the power than eject button quickly. The only reason to have a jailbreak anymore is to have a few more features than a CFW, or to put your PS3 into Service Mode.

Things to Download

If your hacking your ps3, there is some things you need to download, and put on your flash drive.

Original Firmware of your choosing (I recommend 3.55), Download here:
Custom Firmware of your choosing (I recommend Kmeaw's), Please Google this.

THIS IS INCOMPLETE!!! Any advice, or anything to help is welcomed greatly!

jailbreak with dongle is possible for all the firmwares from 2.76 to 3.41
Lower firmwares were added little by little on PL3 payload.

Of course, they are not very useful to the users, they usually update to 3.15 for OtherOS, or 3.41 because it was the first one with jailbreak method.

Oh okay. Thanks.
Sorry about not updating this when I got home yesterday from school, I was very busy.
I will HOPEFULLY finish this tonight when I get home, and it will include everything of PS3 hacking.
Thanks Tempers

Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.

I'm designing my own entertainment cabinet for my man cave, to store all my systems, then I'm also designing a power supply/HDMI switcher so I can switch to whichever system I want, and power it also. Already picked up the cabinet board, but tinkering with my drawings before start
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
