I bought a ps4 earlier this week from ebay and at first it worked fine. I was in the process of deleting the previous psn account on the system when I headed off to bed. Next day I wake up and turn it on to find no signal with the ps4 slowly blinking blue(fading in and out). What's wrong with it? It worked fine before and now all of a sudden it stops working.

if it only pulsates blue when you turn it on and light never changes to solid white - your system has an APU failure (BLOD), requires BGA Rework Station to reball and reflow the chip to fix it

This is the 1st gen Fat. Most likely is BLOD, but there is a trick to give it some life extension. Use two metal washers on each screw on the APU tensioner. This will give more tension on the APU cooling.

Hey it worked! Thanks man :D. Now I have a separate problem, that might just be me being stupid. I re-initialized my system or something(New to PS systems), and now its asking me to plug in a ps4 controller and press the PS button. I do that, but nothing happens. I'm using a 3rd party controller, but it worked earlier before the ps4 broke. Do I need an official controller or is there something I'm missing.

So, the washers trick worked for you? Cool! :)

I am not familiar with 3rd party controllers. Is it with USB cable attached? To recognise any controller, it must be wired connected to the console at this point. If it wired, most probably it does look for genuine controller? Borrow one from a friend and try. Also try different usb ports.

Waiting for ps4 controller I bought to come. But erm, the washer thing worked.... but then proceeds to do the same thing after rebooting :nayps3:. Any permanent fixes?

EDIT: I re tightened the screws and it works! Guess the connection is shotty. Do you think I could try to re-flow the chip in hopes that would have a permanent solution? I've never done anything too intense, but I do have Rework station, and from what it seems all I need to do is heat up the chip.

An APU is not easy to reflow. You need to have a larger heat plate on the rework station with larger IR lamp than usual, if not mistaken. Anyway you can try, just do not overdo it. Overheating the board might damage traces etc. Also use tape to cover the sourounding components. Good luck.
