Is it possible to uninstall a cios? Or replace it with the stub that was there prior?
Good morning,

uninstalling a CIOS is very perilous.

yes, you can change the CIOS base, but know what you're doing.

what is really your problem? , what exactly do you want to do?

Well I accidentally installed a cios in the wrong slot, so I was wondering if it were possible to remove it.

Hello! I'm completely new to softmodding btw. Just needed some help. I've managed to download a wii game to my HDD, and will shows up on usbloadergx; but when I go to click on the game a black screens shows. Once I click start I just get sent back to the home brew app. Any advice is appreciated.

U notice how the guy who posted after you got a response before u did? You catch more with honey, as they say

What kind of channels do u want? It's unclear what u mean, there are wiiware games/channels, or forwarder channels, etc

U will definitely need a way of copying files to your sd card, u don't have a computer but do u have anything else u could use? There are ways to get stuff on the SD using the wii through ftp or other homebrew like the homebrew browser, but u will need something else to set those up at least initially

Ps. U never said anything about telling u to get a PC, so can I suggest u do that without u absolutely losing it? Lol!

Hi, coming back to wii modding after many years away due to a scare with my current setup (think my USB hard drive might be failing). So far I've updated all cIOS/apps w/ ModMii (the syscheck comparison is a really really cool feature), but I also wanted to check on upgrading the USB hard drive used for my modded wii. Can an SD card be used for this now (in terms of storing all apps/gamecube games/wii games/emunand/etc)? Way way back I know there were severe limitations on the SD cards that could be used on the Wii (IIRC Wii didn't officially support >2GB cards w/ SDHC until years after launch), are there any size limitationsfor using an SD card with a Wii today? Are there any other limitations I should keep in mind when looking for an SD card to replace my USB, or any reasons in 2023 to stick with a USB hard drive over a large SD card?

Not having high hopes when asking questions myself, but:

Does anybody know possibilities to load Wii games from DVD±R(W) with an external USB drive?
I've had success with the old uLoader, but could not find a similar functionality in other loaders (or I'm dumb/blind). While the games I've tested a few hours (Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Wario Shake Dimension) run stable and smooth, uLoader as such is so grossly outdated that it doesn't work with Wii Remote Plus (and it greeted me with loud aggressive music by default).

Backup disc loading with the internal drive is nice as well… but without modchip the drive is locked to 🐌 snail 🐌 speed for standard DVDs – opposed to 2.4x to 6x CAV on original game discs.

I know that if you have an early model Wii drive, then it is possible to use NeoGamma or Priiloader with System Menu IOS to cIOS. A modchip will already have speed fixes which can read discs far more smoothly and put less strain on the drive.

For media, I highly recommend using Verbatim DVD-R media and not DVD+RW, as re-writable discs can be a mixed bag, and even low-quality discs can wear out your drive quicker.

I don't recommend using an SD card for placing all of your ISOs, only use your SD card for homebrew apps.

Modchip for the internal drive would be ideal – if I can get my hands on one at some point. Neogamma or (IOS249 Priiloader hack for older games) work okay for the most, just… 🐌🐌🐌.

Getting a bit sentimental lately, reliving a bit of the past – hence playing from DVD instead HDD.

Wear is not an issue when using some cheap USB drive (that will happily read bad and RW media opposed to console drives). All I need is an USB → SATA for using full-sized drives, that will be fun. Saturday I found another one on the flea market. The young man said: "It is old (built 2014) but unused. Give me 1€ for it, so I don't have to take it back home again!" This way I can get more drives than I could possibly wear down in my life.

Thanks for the reply!

Perhaps you'd be best off setting up a 3.1E emuNAND with SNEEK for better compatibility with modchips, 4.3E very much killed off trucha signed discs and some blacklisted GameCube IDs.

I completely agree with you (Verbatim and engraving x2 maximum),
You will have a hard time finding writers and blanks supporting that low speed. Using a good writer and compatible blanks my internal Wii drives have no trouble reading discs burned at currently available, higher speeds. This is even true for dual layer discs. Metroid Other M works like a charm.

rewritable DVDs do not work with the wii, or badly
That is not surprising. Most console drives work poorly or not at all with RW media.

My initial question was about using external DVD drives on the Wii. Unfortunately I can't find any newer loader than uLoader supporting this edge case.

Thanks for all your help, I am currently using a large SD card for all my data, so far so good. Definitely noticeably slower than loading from USB, but games seem to run fine and I like not having a hard drive dangling from the system since I tend to move it a lot

Have you tried "Unlock Read Speed" ?
Not sure if it will improve anything. I couldn't find much info, but I do remember it from ages ago :(

I still want to try my own trials on GDR 81XX with a USB adapter (external housing).

uLoader as such is so grossly outdated that it doesn't work with Wii Remote Plus
I think the Motion + (clip on) should perform better than the newer Wiimotes with built in +

What are all of the readable formats that the Wii can read to boot up WII games? I know WAD is for WIiWare (and other pieces of software like the Demae channel)

Hello, I want to use a mic I bought on Amazon for guitar hero. It’s compatible according to the Amazon post. I plugged it in the first time and it worked. After that it didn’t recognize the mic being plugged in. How do I fix it?

Hi.

I am just starting my Wii adventure.
I have never had the opportunity to own this hardware before.
I'm more of a retro fan and own several old consoles from the Big N. Now a Wii console has fallen into my hands and I am trying to play with it.

To start with I've taken to softmod. I managed to do everything according to the guide available on wii.guide. I use usbloadergx to run games for the Gamecube platform (from the SD card).

The problem I have is running games in .wbfs format using WiiFlow. When trying to launch a WiiFlow game it throws me to the Wii Menu after a short time. I can't seem to get around this. Perhaps someone will be able to help me here?

I've included the SysCheck report below straight away to provide complete information.
I would be very grateful for any help on this topic.
Thank you!
