Read rules prompt when registering for the first time

GBAtemp could have a prompt with a hyperlink asking the new registered user to read the rules from the top of the page before proceeding. Many new users don't even bother to read it since a link to the rules is right at the bottom which can become un-noticable.

Last I knew you had to check an "I agree" checkbox that has a link to the rules when registering, I don't see how putting a link at the top would change current behavior of noobs not reading the rules.

People can't be bothered to read the rules, and there's nothing you can do to stop it. You could require they click a link to the rules and stay on the page for 1 minute and they're still going to just ignore what's there.

This will also hinder or stop fake account bots from signing up as well, I think an interactive sign-up process is long overdue tbh.

But, I do agree that some sort of changing interactive sign up sounds like a good idea.

I hope that you understand that people register on resources where registration is needed, not just because there is such an opportunity, but because they need it for something?

Absolutely. Just like everyone is "supposed to read" the EULAs and rules before blindly clicking on "I agree" and entering. (Nobody reads those but lawyers)

Yes, because honestly, people should know what they are agreeing to. I think we would have issues if people knew just the most basic rules of the site before making their first post. I also believe a short simple series of questions might help reduce spammers as many of them would honestly quit than attempt to spend any more time during the signup process.

Hell, I'd even be okay with new members having to solve some puzzles or CAPTCHAs first, if it meant spam would be halted.
