Hi,
I've dug out some old Xboxes to try and get running again. One of them had a mod chip that I have removed as it wasn't working correctly, however the HDD is unlocked and I do not have the eeprom.bin file so I am getting a code 5 (was a 6 before I changed to the original HDD) error when it tries to boot . Is there any way of doing a reset on my PC with the HDD using XboxHDM?

The 2nd xbox is goosed so I only have this one.

Cheers in advance.

Nope. No backup of the eeprom=no locking it on pc.

Options are either to chip it again or build a eeprom reader, dump the eeprom that way and then you can rebuild and lock the hdd on pc.

Without a modchip you're out of luck. A modchip allows you to use unlocked hard drives. If you had the eeprom.bin, you could lock the hard drive so it would be read by the motherboard, and then if you wanted to you could softmod and TSOP flash it, which will let you use unlocked hard drives without a modchip.

But with no eeprom.bin and assumedly no locked hard drive for it, you're out of luck. It's pretty much bricked without a modchip.

I've found several Xbox consoles for around $10-$20 at various yard sales and thrift stores. That being said, if you really want to spend the extra time to fix this one, you can build an eeprom reader to get the eeprom.bin from your Xbox. Check out these videos from YouTube:
