Hardware Replacement Controller PS3

I have a PS3 that is missing the original controller, if a buy a non genuine controller - is there anything that I can't do with it that an original would do?

For example if I sell it - should i buy a replacement genuine controller to go with it? or just sell it with a new non genuine controller?

Watch out for the which claim to have six axis.
I have a few non originals and none of them have any motion control (although the housing has the six axis inprint)
So for instance "heavy rain" which uses that feature is unplayable with such a controller

Beter buy an original one second hand.
And then you need to buy the 2nd version or later as the first generation does not have rumble.

Genuine PS3 controller are hard to find. I have been using a PS4 controller for many many years now. The only thing is that the PS button don't work but I use a regular usb keyboard for that (pause key is PS). The PS5 controller seems to work better but I don't have one to test (yet!).
You should buy a cheap 3rd party also for spare because you would need it in recovery mode if that is ever a case but I have never needed it.

I think the best is to buy today an ps5 pad, and use it along with an usb keyboard, or ps3/ps move pad(plugged).
Use one of these for ps button, and ps5 pad for gaming.
Regarding ps3 controller, you could buy latest ones from 2014-2015. I bought an ps3 superslim brand new, along with ps move and ps3 controller
Ps move has dead battery...

the good thing about PS3 controller is its easy to spot a fake one all you have to do is just bring a dumb USB 5v power bank (not those with quick charge, just the regular one) since the charging behavior of the controller alone is a damn give away.

I'm using ps4 controller too, but i realized that some games do not work, some examples are ico hd and god of war chains of olympus hd, now i'm looking for a replacement to play these games.

by the way, i found the IPEGA PG-SW023, that seems to be compatible including SIXAXIS, despite the Nintendo format.
