Gamefreak is usually pretty lazy... with their Virtual console ports they didn't add an option to play online. (Only Local)
Gen 2 was a pretty great competitive game and there a online comunnity that still play online until this days (Emulator) I mean that there is a comunnity that could thake advantage of a online mod for Crystal VC...

be happy we even got local wireless VC.

I can think of a lot of GBA games that would be enhanced if this worked for GBA
