ReverseNX - Flag your console as handheld or docked

ReverseNX

Combination of SaltyNX patches that force games to think that you are using docked or handheld mode.

You can use it to change graphics settings and unlock some options that are available only in docked/handheld mode. For now in experimental phase, because SaltyNX has many bugs that need to be patched.

To download latest SaltyNX, check links at the end of post.

_____________

To use ReverseNX, you need to use ReverseNX-Tool which can be downloaded at the end of this post. Check readme in repo to learn how to use it.

When forcing docked mode, it is recommended to use OC settings exactly as used in docked mode:
Code:
handheld_charging_gpu=768
handheld_charging_mem=1600

______________

Known issues:
  • SaltyNX is still under development, so it may cause issues on it's own. More in SaltyNX repo.
______________

Thanks to @Kirby567fan and @crow132 for testing.
To @RattletraPM for logo.
To @SunTheCourier for sys-clk Editor on which I have based ReverseNX-Tool >=2.0.0
To Borealis contributors for Borealis which I'm using from 3.0.0

Waaait... It sounds like SaltyNX brakes. Something is mixed up somewhere.
Dunno what is going on your sdcard. Try to delete SaltyNX folder and put fresh one. Don't touch anything there. Restart Switch, try to run FE3H. If it won't crash, go to ReverseNX-Tool and try to use it.

Edit: fricking reception here kills me...
Okay thanks, will try that

Uploaded 3.1.0 version:
  • Added game icons next to titles
  • Added option to hide Tab menu when being in Games tab by using L (use R to bring it back)
  • Added custom font size scaling based on game title character count (temporary solution until Borealis will fix issue with overflowing texts)
Thanks to @cucholix for testing many builds to help me adjust text font size scaling to not overflow

Custom scaling is using character count, so it won't be perfectly scaling, but now it should not overflow anymore (at least in tested titles by @cucholix it didn't happen). It's using roots to adjust size more agressive for shorter titles and less aggressive for longer titles.
Before:
snes_overlap.jpg

After:
nso1.jpg

EDIT: 3.1.1 uploaded better adjusting capitalized titles.

just want to note,
if you are getting the BSOD when launching ReverseNX-Tool, you must use APP mode for HBL. i am guessing this is due to number of games installed (i have 190). before the gui update i had no problem, running in album mode.

You mean from 3.1.0?
Well, I can try to check what is the default limit for memory overflow in 3.1.x and I can force icons to not load if game count number will be too big (because this is probably the biggest memory eater here).

3.1.2 update released.

Code:
Add memory overflow safety for Applet mode (in case of too much games detected it will ignore showing icons).

So safe limit from my tests is 160. If more, it will not show icons in Show/Hide tab modes. If you have more than 56 games, it will not show icons only in Hide tab mode.

ReverseNX doesn't change clocks. If you want 768Mhz you need to plugin the official charger and use sys-clk.

change graphic like docked mode? so will it not unlock gpu to 768mhz?
Just it won't change to 768 MHz while being physically in handheld mode. Games doesn't have privileges to change clocks directly. They can only suggest to system what it should use and system decides when change clocks.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
