Yes you can, i ve installed a couple games through this method myself. If you accept the fact a ban will hit you sometime, theres nothing to be afraid of. A ban will hit you anyway for whatever reason if you using all those homebrew and stuff. And also, eventually there ll be something to unban consoles too, so whatever.

Edit - this is for those who arent familiar to this process

the process to using another donor is quite simple, same as for the layeredfs,
all you need to do to use another game as donor is you have to do a bit of change to the file called main.npdm thats inside exefs folder to match the game you wanna use as donor
this way:
Before anything, make a backup for devmenu, just in case something goes wrong
open up this website

http://carlus.altervista.org/nx/title_id_patcher.html

I will use VOEZ Demo
Type down the title id for the game you want to use as donor
As I m using VOEZ Demo, the title id for this game is 01008D00062C2000
so simply type down:
01008D00062C2000
click on Browse...
look up for the main.npdm file thats inside exerfs
After it, click on `Download patched file ` and download it to whatever place you want it to be.
copy this main.npdm file you just downloaded to exerfs folder, overwrite the one thats there.
create a folder on the sd card called sxos
create a folder inside sxos called titles
create a folder inside titles with the same titleid name as you used for the donor, in this case, 01008D00062C2000
copy all the devmenu content to the inside of 01008D00062C2000 folder
at this point, you should have something like this:
sdcard:\sxos\titles\01005D100807A000 with both exefs and romfs inside there
thats it
get your sd card back to the switch, turn the switch on and open up the donor you used, in this case, VOEZ demo

I only have kirby stars demo installed on my switch.. so can I use this?

Argh, i've still got exactly the same result. It freezes at the Nintendo screen upon launching the donor game..
Im pretty sure that a loaded backup from SX OS will not work.... I tried with my real cart of SMO and it worked 100%. Loaded SMO xci backup from the SX OS menu and it froze.... So you either have to have a digital game installed or a cart inserted. Can't be a backup copy from my experience.

Well, i didnt try it out with this id but you can give it a try. It wont brick or do any harm to your switch if something goes wrong

I tried it using my FIFA 18 cart, it still froze at the Nintendo screen..

I'm positive these freezing issues are being caused by Horizon v4.1 for whatever reason.. Meh..

Fuck it, i'm gonna join the Ninty grid & upgrade this device. Will buy another one for online play, i've made my peace with it...

Using Flashback

Change directory name to 01000A0004C50000

Hexedit sxos\titles\01000A0004C50000\exefs\main.npdm
Offset - Data
0x290 - 0000010000000001 0000C504000A0001
0x460 - 0000C504000A0001

Perfect, worked a treat!
Using SXOS 1.3 and Flashback I copied the Devmenu to the SD card and made the changes.
Worked first time!

Just to confirm, I can now launch DevMenu using a donor without issue on v5.1. Not sure what was causing the freezing issues on v4.1, but hey ho.. :grog:

Now to re-flash my NAND backup, everything setup on v5.1 /w Pokemon installed for the basis of DevMenu, once I confirm that’s an easy way to ‘start again’ so to speak, i’ll start going install crazy on some of these other games.. :D

So pretty much confirmed there is an issue with SX OS LayeredFS on 4.1.0, I'm still going to wait for TX custom installer though until new games start asking for 5.x firmware

If you want to use Hulu, which is only 37.5 MB, here are the values:

0x290 0000010000000001 0040380360A60001

Im on 4.1.0 and considering updating to 5.1.0 like you did. Fed up with file splitting and length of time it takes. If you backed up 4.1 NAND can you restore easily from there. Ive never done a restore does it 100% work right now? Also if you have 5.1.0 devmenu working why are going back to 4.1?

I’ve kept my partial v4.1 backup just in case, however, burnt efuses will cause an issue as it stands. I want to try restoring the fresh v5.1 backup I made before installing Sonic, with just Pokémon installed to know i’ve got a good to go restore point if needed.. :)

Spoke to Tom Fulp the other day, if he can find his old Newgrounds site content like the mini Flash animations from the 2000's that played on the portal.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
So far no response, but he did say that he'll find them. Wayback Machine doesn't have em.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, atleast the 1999 versión of pico's school is avaliable (the difference between it, the 2006 versión and the 2016 versión is that the speed of the game depends of the speed of your computer and that it had the og soundtrack)

@Xdqwerty, Another being Pico VS Bear, the original 1999 version before Jim Henson filed a DMCA takedown.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
The 2006 versión was made when the flash portal was made
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Many people thought it was lost, but was discovered that he hid it on the same page.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, although the "secrets" system where the game was has been removed. Also pico vs uberkids had a netplay versión that was shutdown, although the swf file has been found
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Nope. There are two download buttons on the same page, where you can download the original under a file called "bear.exe". "bear2.exe", however, is the updated game in a Flash projector. P.s. this was on the archived Pico page from 2000.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's been there for a long time, too. People who search for lost media don't look hard enough lmao.

@SylverReZ, also the pico 2 demos used to be only for the newgrounds patrons but they are on internet archive too (https://archive.org/download/picos_school_2)

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
Iirc the demos were removed from newgrounds in 2022

@SylverReZ, or well only the demo with mindchamber's style was on newgrounds

Fun fact @SylverReZ: iirc one of the goals on the fnf Kickstarter stated that pico 2 would be finished but the Kickstarter didnt get enough money for that goal to be fullfiled
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, FNF sucks, their community is toxic as hell.

@The Real Jdbye, Yea but it has a shitton of mods with their own songs and stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@The Real Jdbye, and quite a lot of people involved in those mods get cancelled
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Newgrounds wasn't the birth of FNF; rather, it was games where you beat up celebrities and parodies.
