First off I am using tiramisu and everything is updated to the latest versions. I also downloaded save mii mod directly from the homebrew store

So for the last few days I've been trying to back up my fe 7 save file from my wii U using save mii mod.

However all I get is .bin files
I have no clue how to convert them or how to actually get save mii to export the .sav file.

No written tutorial covers this problem and every video I've watched shows them getting a .sav file

I've also tried backing up snes files and a similar problem arises. They aren't .bin files but rather a bunch of files with extensions I've never heard of. Changing them to .srm doesn't yield results either.

The only success I've had is with ds games. When I back up I do get the coveted .sav file and I can even restore the save using a alternate .sav file just fine.

If anyone is able to help me I'd very much appreciate it thank you.

just reinject them with savemii mod if needbe. afaik, saves for the wiiu are not encrypted, so you could technically replace them manually, and they'd work.

AFAIK savemii dumps the saves in whatever format the Wii U stores them. It's a tool to backup and restore on the Wii U, not to convert for other systems.

I'm pretty sure you're right. savemii mod is compatible with saviine or even a manual inject.

By reinject do you mean restore the back up?
Also how do I replace them manually?

Is there a way to change the format the wii u stores it in that case?

Yes, you need a save already for all three situations. They'll be indexed, so your save will overwrite another.
I tried reinjecting them but it didn't help. I still can't extract a .sav
I know I'm doing something wrong here I'm just not sure what

There's no general save format. Some are bin, save, or dat.
Oh okay.
I ended up looking through some posts on here and it seems the only solution is hex editing which I have had numerous failures at doing haha.
I think I just need to accept that it's impossible to move some saves between wii u vc and 3ds vc.

Regardless thank you for taking the time to explain everything!

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
