Sony announces price hike for PlayStation 5 in most markets

"High global inflation rates" are the cause of a lot of price hikes in various goods, and the latest to fall victim to that is the PlayStation 5. As of today, Sony's boss, Jim Ryan, confirmed that because of "challenging economic conditions", the PS5's retail price will be increasing in most markets worldwide. In Europe, prices will be going up by €50, to €549.99, in the UK the price tag is changing from £449.99 to £479.99. Other regions that are affected are Australia, Mexico, Canada, and China, with the price change being effective as of today. Japan will also see the cost of the console increase, though it will not go into effect until September 15th. For now, the MSRP of the PS5 in the United States remains the same as it has been.

The new RRPs below are effective immediately unless otherwise noted.*

But you guys gotta realize. If they didn't hike the price, the funny profit line would go down a little. We can't have that! The line has to go up!

funny as hell they raised it everywhere but America though, what the fuck's that about?

The amusing part is, I actually wanted to buy a PS5 when a slim model(that console is god awful fugly, even worse than the VCR Xbone) comes out, and when the price is dropped. I have a gaming PC, but I like getting hackable consoles for fun. But yeah, this happened instead, lol.

It's inflation and it effects everyone and every product, Sony is probably taking a hit financially for every PS5 sold even after the price rise.

It's not like Sony is selling weak and outdated hardware at launch for massive profit and five years on have never had a significant price drop the way Nintendo sells the switch.
Supply and Demand, the price of the Switch would have dropped if demand started to falter, but it simply hasn't, even 5 years in. Meanwhile look at the 3DS, it's price was heavily slashed only like 5 months into its life if that. At least Nintendo does offer a $100 cheaper version of the Switch for those on a budget.

great job sony, now I'm no longer interested in the PS5.

Scalpers shlong will getting long, they will sell them for even more now.

I think that more people will decide to buy the Xbox Series X instead.
